As soon as the plane door swung open, Ellis snatched up his backpack and bolted from the plane, as if his life depended on it. He had no intention of fleeing. Instead, he was plotting to keep Ashton and Rosalie from leaving easily. While Ashton and Rosalie were preparing to leave the airport, Ellis was on his phone, urgently instructing his men who were waiting for his arrival outside.
“I was humiliated by a couple of clueless jerks on the plane. Stay sharp out there,” he barked into the phone. “Make sure they don’t leave without some trouble, or it’s going to get messy for all of you.”
The man on the other end hesitated and then responded cautiously, “Ellis, should we consider moving our spot? The eldest Carter daughter, Abrial Carter, announced she’s hosting VIPs today, and she’s warned that any disruptions at the airport will have consequences!”
Ellis initially wore a scowl, but at the mention of Abrial Carter, his face fell, and a visible shudder of fear passed through him.
He knew better than to cross her.
Switching locations might sound simple, but actually pulling it off was another matter entirely. Given Staville’s expanse, how could he possibly track them down once they left the airport?
Was he supposed to swallow the humiliation?
The more Ellis thought about it, the more his frustration grew. Then, a sinister idea crept into his mind.
“You idiot!” Ellis snapped. “If you can’t cause a scene inside the airport, why not wait for them outside? Grab them the moment they step out. This way, you’re not defying Abrial’s orders!” Ellis’ lackey lit up, exclaiming eagerly, “Yes, yes, yes! Your plan is brilliant. No wonder you’re in charge. You’re really sharp! We’re heading there now!”
Ashton and Rosalie took their time retrieving their luggage and eventually appeared at the airport exit.
Ellis and his men had been waiting there for some time.
Upon spotting Ashton and Rosalie, Ellis’ demeanor shifted dramatically. “I was starting to think you two didn’t have the guts to show up,” he declared, a smirk spreading across his face. “But here you are, brave enough to face me. You don’t even realize the trouble you’re in for messing with me.”
The airport staff, poised to intervene and diffuse the escalating situation, paused in their tracks upon noticing Ellis.
Recognizing him, several bystanders near the exit grew anxious and quickly scattered, not wanting to get caught in the unfolding drama.
Others cast sympathetic glances toward Ashton and Rosalie, assuming they were about to face serious repercussions. Yet, Ashton displayed no hint of fear as he confronted Ellis’ menacing stance and the hostile presence of his men.
He observed that, despite their threatening aura, Ellis and his men hadn’t made a move to approach. They were merely causing a scene from outside the entrance.
With a sharp narrowing of his eyes and a defiant frown, Ashton challenged them. “Why all the shouting from out there? What are you afraid of? If you think you can intimidate me, come inside and prove it!”
Ashton stood like a fortress in front of Rosalie, their shadows mingling under the glow of the airport lights. The tension between them and Ellis’ gang was thick enough to slice with a knife. Both sides were locked in silence, a calm before the inevitable storm.
