Ashton’s suspicions had been confirmed. It was a counterfeit!
With the truth exposed, Davis found himself without a rebuttal. His complexion went ashen, and he trembled, stammering his confession.
“I never anticipated it being a fake. I truly made a mistake. Miss Carter, I have served your family loyally for many years. Even the most diligent of us can falter, as we are not flawless like machines.”
While Abrial kept her silence, Ashton’s response was icy. “A mistake, you say? I’m not convinced. Weren’t you the one pushing Miss Carter to purchase this fake? Or perhaps you misunderstood?”
Davis’ face contorted once more.
As he faltered, attempting to articulate his defense, Ashton interrupted sharply, “Stop. It’s clear for anyone to see. You’re merely scrambling to justify your deceit!”
Desperately seeking an ally, Davis turned toward Abrial, but she met his gaze with a look of icy disappointment.
It was then that Davis realized his ploy to peddle the counterfeit, along with the owner of the dagger, had come to light. Even Abrial, who had once stood by him, was now against him. Overwhelmed by betrayal and cornered, Davis erupted in anger. “You fucking bastard, we had no feud! Why meddle? You pushed me to this corner, the whole world did!”
In a sudden burst of fury, Davis whipped out a dagger from his coat.
His eyes, reddened and wild, fixed on Ashton as he lunged forward, the blade aiming for his throat—a clear intent to kill marked by his vicious attack.
The crowd at the venue gasped and screamed, taken aback by the violent escalation.
Among the attendees were affluent entrepreneurs and heirs of noble lineages, all highly esteemed.

Ashton was ready for any response from Davis, fully conscious of the potential pitfalls in Davis’ impulsive behavior.
He was unfazed, confident that Davis would not be able to touch him.
Amidst the chaos of the crowd, Ashton skillfully dodged Davis’ strike with a nimble step aside.
In doing so, he managed to deliver a kick to Davis’ ankle. Though the kick was slightly off-target due to Davis’ quick dodging, it still made Davis wobble unexpectedly.
Surprise etched across his face, Davis hadn’t anticipated that not only would Ashton respond promptly, but he would also retaliate instantly. Ashton was evidently not an average opponent.
Realizing he was outmatched, Davis wisely aborted his attack on Ashton, shifting his focus to Abrial, who was within reach. By now, Davis was revealed, aware he had no future with the Carter family, and deciding he might as well go out fighting. In a rush of adrenaline, Davis bellowed and swiftly seized Abrial, pressing the dagger to her throat. “Step back, or she dies!” Davis barked.
