The minor mishap before the concert had no impact on the evening’s events. As the minutes ticked by, the eagerly awaited concert began at last. Inside the venue, the lighting slowly faded until a single spotlight shone on the grand piano at the center of the stage.
The celebrated maestro, Ivan, clad in a refined suit, entered the stage with a warm, inviting smile. He opened the event with a short speech before commencing his performance. Under Ivan’s expert touch, the piano seemed to spring to life, emitting melodies that were both enchanting and captivating. The audience was spellbound, transported to a serene, almost dreamlike realm of music.
At the conclusion of his performance, Ivan struck the final note, and the audience, composed of esteemed guests, rose in a unanimous standing ovation, their applause resounding through the venue. In the back, Phillip and Emalee, although less genuinely enthused, joined in the applause, mimicking admiration for Ivan’s performance.
Emalee couldn’t help but exclaim, “No wonder he’s hailed as a legendary music master. His talent truly knows no bounds!”
Phillip, with a hint of envy, remarked, “Absolutely! That’s the mark of genuine talent. Ashton’s performance at your grandfather’s birthday party doesn’t even come close to this!”
Meanwhile, a buzz had begun among some guests regarding the presence of Ivan’s student at the concert after the earlier incident in the dining area. Phillip and Emalee, restricted to their regular invite, had not been privy to the dining area and thus were unaware of Ashton’s ties to Ivan.
As Ivan concluded his performance, he stood, bowed gracefully to the audience, and walked offstage in a deliberate direction. The audience’s gaze lingered on him, curious about his next action. Phillip and Emalee, along with many others, were puzzled by the maestro’s movements. What they witnessed next was astounding.
Ivan approached Ashton, who was among the audience, and they exchanged pleasantries with beaming smiles. Phillip’s eyes widened in disbelief. “He actually knows Professor Stewart? How can that be?”
Yet, the bigger surprise was still to unfold. After a brief conversation, Ivan encouraged Ashton to rise from his seat.
Addressing the crowd, Ivan announced, “It is my great honor to introduce to you all, my esteemed student, Ashton Baldwin! Although young, Ashton has already garnered numerous international awards. His musical prowess rivals, if not surpasses, my own. Despite having been absent for two years, he’s a prodigy I’ve long sought to bring into our fold at the school. Yet, he remains hesitant. I hope today, with all of you here, we can persuade him to join us!”
Ivan’s voice brimmed with pride as he spoke. While his words seemed a humble request for assistance in persuading Ashton, it was clear that he was proudly presenting his protégé to the audience.
The influential guests in attendance quickly caught on to Ivan’s subtle cue. They began approaching Ashton with keen interest, soon engaging him in animated discussions.
On the other hand, Phillip’s and Emalee’s expressions soured, and they chose to remain silent. Phillip’s face reddened with embarrassment, feeling as though he had been metaphorically slapped. Only moments ago, he had mocked Ashton’s musical abilities, claiming they paled in comparison to those of a true maestro. However, Ivan’s public endorsement of Ashton as his esteemed student, boasting a talent comparable to his own, only served to underscore Phillip’s ignorance, making his earlier mockery seem foolish.
Emalee observed Ashton, now the center of attention among the prominent figures, and was flooded with conflicting emotions, struggling to grasp the full extent of the unfolding events. What exactly was happening? She had been Ashton’s wife for two years yet had no inkling that he was under the tutelage of a renowned music master. Reflecting on her grandfather’s past remarks, Emalee’s expression turned contemplative. Had she overlooked something crucial?
Doubts began to cloud her heart. When he saw Emalee’s uncertain reaction, Phillip’s jealousy deepened.
Phillip gritted his teeth, his thoughts bitter with resentment. Despite Ashton’s evident skill at the piano, he convinced himself that such talent didn’t truly define greatness. He redirected his focus to the upcoming charity auction, determined to use it as a platform to demonstrate his own worth and show everyone who the true star was that evening.
