As the bidding for the warehouse soared to exorbitant heights, it became clear that securing it would not yield any profits. Jeff, making a strategic decision, opted out and instead secured a less sought-after warehouse for Craig, confident in its potential profitability.
Craig, observing Jeff’s adept maneuvering, felt a surge of satisfaction. He glanced at Ashton’s group, who remained inactive, and his feelings of superiority intensified. How had he ever been bested by them the day before?
Irritation brewing, Craig couldn’t hold back from jeering at them. “Hey, are you three here just to embarrass yourselves? The auction’s been underway for some time now, and you’re still just standing there? Without any real strategy, why even bother showing up to a warehouse auction? At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if your branch company closes down in the next six months!”
Craig’s voice echoed with a taunting sneer, resembling a movie villain, but Ashton ignored him, choosing instead to focus on his conversation with Rosalie.
Rosalie felt rattled by the harsh comments, but Ashton gave her a calming smile. “Ignore him,” he advised, “Consider it like a barking dog. The more attention it gets, the louder it barks. Ignore it, and eventually, it will tire and quiet down.”
Rosalie caught his drift and responded with an understanding smile.
Nearby, Abrial, envious of their rapport, cleared her throat to draw their attention. “Ashton, when will you make your move? It seems we’re down to the dregs in the remaining warehouses.”
Ashton’s response was a cryptic silence.
He had been secretly eyeing a warehouse that had been so overlooked, it was almost forgotten. To most, the contents appeared to be mere junk, but Ashton had spotted something extraordinary—a hidden antique with great value that would surely surprise everyone if found.
Aware of Craig’s vigilant gaze, Ashton opted to stay under the radar to avoid any interference from him.

When the third-to-last warehouse was called, Ashton made his move, bidding $3,000.
The surrounding crowd chuckled, not over the low amount, but because the bid was unexpectedly high for what was visible. Everyone had seen the contents—a collection of wooden furniture ruined by damp and rot, effectively useless. The warehouse owner had even tagged it optimistically at $800, hoping to attract an uninformed bidder.
Surprisingly, here was this young man, seemingly extravagantly foolish, willing to pay up for clearing out what was considered trash. Craig, initially cautious of Ashton’s potential strategies, now burst out laughing at the sight of Ashton’s bid on what seemed worthless.
Beside him, Jeff shared his disillusionment. “All this tension for nothing? He sifts through everything and chooses this scrap heap? Is he aiming for notoriety by becoming the joke of the day?”
