Chapter 429
Chapter 429:
Ashton narrowed his eyes and looked at Roy with interest, his smile widening. “And who might this be?”
Feeling triumphant, Jacoby proudly introduced him, “This is Roy Singh, the deputy director of Staville’s Department of Commerce. He oversees company registrations. You see the consequences of crossing us, right?”
Recalling Roy’s earlier statement, Jacoby sneered and added, “Oh, and it’s not our doing. Your company simply failed to prepare the necessary paperwork. That’s why Roy had to reject it according to regulations. Maybe you should skip dinner and go revise your materials. Keep submitting them, and perhaps, if we’re feeling generous, we’ll approve you!”
With that, Jacoby let out a sharp laugh, reveling in his spiteful glee.
Jacoby’s laughter rang out mockingly, but Ashton didn’t get angry. Instead, he chuckled along, though his smile had a cold edge to it.
After a brief moment of cold laughter, Ashton swiftly shifted to a more serious tone and directly addressed Roy. “It’s unexpected to see the deputy director of the Department of Commerce here. My luck must be turning around. This is a good opportunity to ask for your advice. What was the issue with our new company’s application?”
Roy, knitting his brows dismissively, retorted, “You don’t even know the flaws in your own application, and you’re asking me? I’ve never seen someone taking an exam and pestering the examiner for answers!”
“But isn’t your analogy a little skewed?” Ashton replied calmly. “Since our application was rejected, doesn’t that mean the test is already over? Shouldn’t I be allowed to ask where we went wrong? Or are you implying there were no errors, and someone is unjustly blocking our approval?”
Roy, visibly annoyed and ignoring Ashton’s reasoning, snapped, “Quit distorting the truth. Without a satisfactory application, you shouldn’t even dream about starting your business!”
Roy was clearly making things difficult on purpose. A colder expression crept onto Ashton’s face, but he maintained a subtle grin. His rivals had grown emboldened by the support of the deputy director.

What they didn’t know was that the director of the Department of Commerce was actually supporting Ashton.
With a hint of sarcasm, Ashton remarked, “Quite the impressive deputy director—blatantly dishonest yet so self-assured. What a great display of authority!”
Roy’s face darkened, his gaze turning icy.
Craig, noticing the shift in Roy’s demeanor, felt a surge of excitement. He quickly chimed in, “Yes, we can lie straight to your face. Do you have a problem with that? How many times do I have to remind you? This isn’t Inewood. While your Skyline Group might hold influence there, here, you’re just begging for our approval. Given the situation, it’s best for you to head back to Inewood or stop wasting your time trying to establish a branch here. With Roy’s backing, your application is destined to be rejected!”
As soon as Craig finished, a sharp clap echoed from the stairs, followed by a voice saying, “Is this how some choose to wield their power? Quite the approach! Haven’t you considered the consequences?”
