Rosalie believed their bidding proposal was exceptionally well-crafted this time, having even addressed the more subtle shortcomings with Ashton’s insightful advice. Yet, they still didn’t win the bid, leaving Rosalie feeling disheartened.
She suspected that the Marquez brothers had manipulated the outcome, and although it was frustrating, she felt powerless to challenge them on their turf.
Noticing Ashton’s darkened expression, Rosalie set aside her own disappointment to console him, saying, “It’s alright, Ashton. Consider this a learning opportunity. We’ll double our efforts and succeed next time.”
Ashton shook his head, his voice laced with determination. “No, this was your hard work. I can’t stand by and watch it go to waste. There’s definitely something underhanded at play here.”
With that, Ashton rose from his seat and headed to a quiet corridor to make a phone call. He dialed Marlon.
As soon as Marlon answered, his cheerful tone came through. “So, how’s everything on your end? I looked over your company’s proposal yesterday. It was top-notch and exactly what I was looking for. I’ve already spoken with the official in charge of the bidding process to ensure he stays neutral. If everything went according to plan, you should have secured the contract by now, right?” Marlon’s confident words hung in the air as Ashton took a moment to respond.
Clearly, things hadn’t gone according to plan.
Picking up on the hesitation, Marlon’s voice dropped in concern. “Is there an issue I didn’t foresee?”

With a steady tone, Ashton answered, “The person you mentioned seems to be closely linked with Sup Group. He just declared that the Marquez family won the bid.”
Upon hearing this, Marlon immediately went on alert.
Marlon had explicitly demanded that the bidding process adhere strictly to the rules, and Phil had guaranteed there would be no deviations. Yet now, Phil had blatantly disregarded his directives. Marlon was suddenly overwhelmed with anxiety.
The higher-ups from Tacland had already decreed that everything should proceed according to Ashton’s plans, warning that even a bureau chief would face consequences if it didn’t.
Ashton hadn’t even requested that the plot of land be directly given to him, which had already made things easier. Moreover, their proposal was clearly the best.
Marlon could have confidently defended any scrutiny, proclaiming his integrity remained intact. But now, Phil’s rebellious actions had put everything at risk.
It seemed as though Phil wasn’t just sabotaging himself, but trying to drag Marlon down as well. Realizing this, Marlon’s voice shook as he said, “Don’t worry. Just give me ten minutes, and I’ll be there to fix everything!”
“Hurry,” Ashton replied curtly before ending the call.
