Alisha was shocked, not expecting Ashton to be so coldhearted. She gave him a disapproving look and rebuked him with dissatisfaction, “Sir, how can you be so uncompassionate? Can’t you see that he is already in a difficult situation? What harm would it do to lend him a helping hand?”

However, Ashton remained resolute, shaking his head firmly. “This has nothing to do with me. It is not my obligation to compensate him. If he wants to sue me, I will go with him.”

Nikolas felt even more helpless now. Ashton was so tough that he didn’t even listen to the police’s persuasion. It seemed his usual tactics were failing him.

He could only continue weeping and lamenting, “Why is fate so unfair to me? I am an honest person. Do I deserve to be always bullied?”

Nikolas’ cries became louder, and he looked even more miserable. Alisha, as a police officer, couldn’t help but sympathize with him.

However, she couldn’t deny the fact that Ashton had no responsibility for this matter. It was hard for her to hold him accountable.

She said harshly through clenched teeth, “How can you be so heartless? You don’t even care about a poor man’s life? Are you not afraid of retribution?”

Then, she turned to the short man and said, “Sir, don’t worry. Since he refuses to compensate you, I’ll help you resolve this.”

After saying this, Alisha looked around at the onlookers and said loudly, “Everyone, you have all seen this gentleman’s difficulties. We can’t just leave him to die. I hope everyone can help him. I’ll take the lead.”

Alisha took out a small purse from her bag, wanting to donate some money first. She fished out a few bills.

When Ashton saw this, he felt a headache coming on. He didn’t understand why Alisha was so easy to deceive. She was a police officer. Shouldn’t she be trained to assess situations and people accurately?

Alisha was obviously unhappy with his words. She pursed her lips and retorted, “It’s all because of you. You lack compassion and are unwilling to lend a helping hand.”

Ashton shrugged his shoulders and said resignedly, “Okay. If he really wants me to compensate him, I’ll pay for these medicines. I’ll give him money to buy some new bottles for his future use. It should make him happy, right?”

He turned to Nikolas and asked, “Sir, how much money do you need for these medicines?”

Nikolas was overjoyed because Ashton finally gave in. He thought he could extort a good amount of money from Ashton, so he boldly said, “I’ve spent a total of one hundred and thirty thousand dollars on them. I had a hard time raising this much, so you must compensate me properly.”

Ashton nodded, pretending to be reluctant. “Okay. Since I am willing to pay for these medicines, they are mine now, right? I’ll just consider this as a lesson learned.”
