Adjacent to the corpse lay a trash can filled with ashes. After piecing together the charred remnants, the officers concluded that the deceased had incinerated all his identification documents prior to dying, clearly a ploy to impede any police investigation.

Meanwhile, another officer returned with insights from the hotel staff, revealing that the deceased was not an employee but an intruder who had surreptitiously infiltrated the premises. The investigation appeared to have reached a dead end.

Ashton’s gaze narrowed thoughtfully, his mind replaying the moment he had locked eyes with Egan.

This meant that the cake was still positioned in the banquet hall, and the distinguished guests there for the significant birthday celebration were also confined for their safety.

Contemplating the possibility of a bomb hidden within the cake, Ashton didn’t hesitate. He turned sharply and sprinted toward the banquet hall.
