“I’ve already told you,” Zane snapped, his voice rising, “it’s not your place to tell me how to do my job! Who do you think you are to lecture me?”
As if a thought struck him, Zane shifted his gaze to Alisha, adopting a patronizing tone. “Alisha, let me give you some advice. Even if you don’t want to date me, you shouldn’t settle for someone like him. Look at him now—he’s only talking like this because he knows you’re the police director’s daughter. He’s already acting arrogantly. Can you imagine how much worse it’ll be if you actually get together with him?”
Alisha’s irritation had been simmering ever since Zane started behaving unreasonably. Hearing him speak so poorly of Ashton, she could no longer hold back her frustration.

You deserve someone who’s your equal in status, not someone like him. Guys like Ashton—they live off their looks and charm. They’re the ones who trick girls like you into believing their lies!”
Ashton stood speechless, baffled by Zane’s assessment. Living off his looks and charm? He blinked in disbelief. Was it his fault that he was handsome?
Alisha’s laugh was cold as she spoke. “Zane, you’ve been away for a month, haven’t you? Let me introduce Ashton properly. This is Ashton Baldwin, the head of Skyline Group’s Staville branch. Still think he’s just a pretty boy?”
