Chapter 619
Chapter 619:
Once back in her room, Abrial began to pace, her mind churning for a plan, each step more frantic than the last. She knew she had few allies left to call on, and Ashton, ever the protector, had made it clear he didn’t want Rosalie caught in this web, which was why he’d sent her back to Inewood.
After a long moment of reflection, Abrial made a decision. She wouldn’t tell Rosalie—at least, not yet.
Then, Abrial recalled something Zane had mentioned—Ashton’s connection to the daughter of the director of the police department.
Ashton had once mentioned a policewoman named Alisha. Could it be that Alisha was the director’s daughter? If so, perhaps she held the key to his salvation!
Fueled by this slim chance, Abrial scrambled to find someone who could get her Alisha’s contact information. Moments later, with her heart pounding like a war drum, she dialed Alisha’s number, recounting the setup that had entrapped Ashton. “Please, Alisha. I know Ashton isn’t capable of murder. Is there any way you can help prove his innocence?”
There was a moment of silence on Alisha’s end. When she finally spoke, her tone was firm and serious. “Don’t worry. Ashton once saved my life, and I don’t believe he’s capable of murder. I will investigate this fully and make sure his innocence is proven.”
The chain of events unraveled in a flash, catching everyone off guard. Ordinarily, as a traffic police officer, Alisha wouldn’t have the jurisdiction to meddle in a murder case. But with Ashton’s safety hanging by a thread, Alisha pulled some strings at the police station to gather a few crumbs of information. With these scraps, she hurried to Carter Manor, where she found Abrial waiting.
With Abrial as her guide, Alisha was led to the reception room where the tragedy had taken place. Since the case was still under investigation, the room remained cordoned off, ensuring that few dared to wander near. This made it easy for the two of them to slip inside.
Still, Alisha’s background as a traffic officer meant her skills in murder investigations were limited. The scene had already been combed over by those more experienced, leaving hardly a scrap of fresh evidence in sight.

Seeing Alisha’s furrowed brow and increasingly troubled expression, Abrial broke the silence with a gentle question. “Miss Smith, did you uncover anything new?”
Alisha shook her head, her face clouded. “Everything of significance has already been taken by the investigative team. I haven’t found anything fresh. Honestly, the room is so pristine that it barely feels like a crime scene. There’s no sign of struggle, no disarray. Based on what I know, there aren’t any fingerprints here other than Ashton’s and the victim’s. This… this makes it hard to argue for Ashton’s innocence.”
Abrial’s eyes widened as if a lightbulb had gone off. “Wait! How could there only be Ashton’s and Craig’s fingerprints here? I was with Ashton last night, waiting for Craig to take the bait!” This realization hit Abrial like a bolt of lightning—perhaps she’d been overlooked because her fingerprints were missing.
Alisha’s demeanor sharpened instantly. “If you were here last night, your fingerprints should also be present. Their absence can only mean one thing—the scene was meticulously wiped down.”
This revelation reinvigorated Alisha, prompting her to reassess the room with renewed vigor.
