Chapter 669
Chapter 669:
Her words seemed to lift a weight off his shoulders. After a moment’s pause, he looked at her with a renewed smile. “You’re right. For tonight, I’ve won. No matter what tomorrow holds, I deserve to enjoy this victory, at least for a while.”
“That’s more like it! There’s no sense in worrying about the future when you’re basking in a well-earned win!” Alisha laughed, pleased to see his spirits lift.
Ashton nodded, but a shadow of regret lingered in his gaze. Turning to her, his smile faded into something more solemn.
He had been tangled in too many concerns before, but now that the moment was his, he knew it was time for an honest talk with her.
As Alisha caught Ashton’s conflicted look, her heart skipped a beat. She quickly looked away, a wave of unease washing over her.
“What’s the matter? Do I have something on my face?” she asked, attempting to mask her discomfort with a light laugh.
“No, not at all,” Ashton reassured her, his voice soft. “I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude. You’ve been incredibly supportive, and a simple ‘thank you’ hardly seems enough. I’ve noticed your feelings for me, but I need to be honest with you—I’m committed to Rosalie now. Continuing this might only lead to heartache, and that’s the last thing I want. It’s better for us to maintain some distance.”
Though Ashton’s words were blunt, Alisha understood their necessity. Her smile faded, replaced with silence that reflected a hint of sadness.
After a long pause, Alisha finally met his gaze again, her voice soft yet resolute. “I understand you’re turning me down. Honestly, this is the first time I’ve felt this way about someone. I used to focus solely on my studies, and I didn’t really understand what it felt like to fall in love until the day you saved me. It was like an electric shock, and suddenly, happiness became tied to you. I often find myself wondering how you would handle situations if we were together. After a lot of reading and thinking, I realized these feelings are real—I genuinely like you. I know you have a girlfriend, and maybe my feelings seem out of place, but I’m not ready to give up. I want to fight for a chance at happiness.”
Ashton listened, struck by Alisha’s sincerity. He felt somewhat overwhelmed, unsure of how to respond.
Alisha could sense his hesitation and gave him a comforting smile. “Don’t worry about it. My feelings are mine to manage. My goal now is to show you that I can be just as significant to you as Rosalie. Once I’ve done that, it’ll be up to you to decide.”

Ashton sighed, shaking his head. “Sorry, I may not be able to do that…”
Before Ashton could fully express himself, Alisha gently pressed her finger to his lips.
She smiled warmly and said, “This isn’t the moment for decisions about love. You have so many obligations that need your attention. The future holds plenty of time for us. Your feelings might change eventually. It’s not wise to make absolute statements about what will happen.”
Not wanting to engage in any more debate, Alisha turned and walked away, leaving Ashton to ponder alone.
