Chapter 732:

“Mr. Baldwin,” Morris began, his tone calm yet tinged with curiosity, “may I ask why you’ve given me this score? Was there something lacking in my dish?”

Morris’ unflinching modesty was a masterstroke, earning him instant admiration.

“A true master remains humble even in the face of absurdity!” one onlooker marveled.

“It’s no wonder he’s reached such heights. Humility is the cornerstone of greatness,” another added.

As the applause for Morris swelled, the audience turned their sharp, mocking eyes back to Ashton, who stood calmly under the weight of their scorn.

The air buzzed with anticipation, a collective hunger for Ashton’s response. Would he concoct a clever excuse to justify his pettiness, or would he flounder under the weight of their derision? The stage, lit by a spotlight of scrutiny, was set for Ashton to face the music—or the gallows.

Although Morris was Stephen’s subordinate, Ashton gave him a look of appreciation for his modest demeanor. But, of course, Ashton still began to critique him sharply.

“I appreciate your eagerness to learn. But I must be honest with you. Your dish is simply not good. Firstly, there is a problem with your choice of the parts of the seven types of meat. You’ve chosen the most tender parts. It sounds good in theory, but it will only cause the finished product to be too soft and lack texture. Secondly, when you tried to recreate the original flavor of the dish, you added two extra kinds of seasoning when you marinated the meat, which overshadowed the main ingredients, making it taste inappropriate.”

After a pause, he continued, “Lastly, the heat you used while cooking was too high, causing the ingredients to heat too quickly and not allowing them to fully release their flavors.” He gestured toward Morris’ dish. “When cooking a dish like this, controlling the heat is critical. This is the main reason why I gave you a score of 80. These three issues combined make your dish appear impressive but with obvious flaws. So, out of respect for you, I can’t give you a perfect score.”

Morris was lost in thought, contemplating Ashton’s comments.

However, the people Stephen had planted in the audience saw an opportunity at this time. They started to say things to work the crowd up into a frenzy.

“This is total nonsense! So many people have tasted Morris’ dish. How come only you can find so many problems with it? I think you’re just being persnickety and deliberately causing trouble.”

“That’s right! Mr. Jeremiah Ashton, please stop letting this man waste everyone’s time. Just award Morris already. Otherwise, I’ll post this online and expose your improper dealings with Skyline Restaurant.”

The Crawford family’s people deliberately fanned the flames of dissent, and their provocative gestures and loud declarations began to ripple through the already disgruntled audience.

But before Jeremiah could say anything, Morris suddenly raised his head and burst into laughter.

He couldn’t help but applaud Ashton. “Mr. Baldwin, your critique is precise and insightful. I acknowledge the problems you’ve pointed out in my dish and am willing to accept your criticism. This time, you are obviously more qualified to win this championship than I am.”
