Chapter 741:

Covington and the other two froze, staring at Ashton with wide eyes. Though they wanted to deny it, no words came.

Seeing their silence, Ashton continued, his voice steady but firm, “You’ve carried the memory of that kindness with you all these years. During the last cooking competition, you held back your true skills because you knew it might be Malcom’s final chance to reclaim what he’d lost. Am I wrong?”

Ashton was confident in his deduction. He had seen the unmistakable expressions of satisfaction and longing on the faces of the three men as they looked at the bustling restaurant, remembering the past.

The three men, however, chose to remain silent, offering no rebuttal to Ashton’s speculation.

Their silence only seemed to agitate Malcom. He suddenly erupted, shouting, “You ungrateful brats! If you still remember my kindness, why did you betray me? Why did you abandon the restaurant? You left me drowning in debt, so much so that I almost took my own life!”

Malcom’s angry outburst echoed in the room, but Covington wasn’t one to back down. Gritting his teeth, he retorted bitterly, “Why? You dare to ask why? We treated you like a brother, Malcom, but you never took us seriously! After your father passed away, we pooled every penny we had, ready to invest in the restaurant with you. We wanted to grow it together! But do you remember what you said? You told us that the restaurant could only belong to the Deleon family, that we had no right to be shareholders—even if it meant watching you go bankrupt!”

Taking a deep breath to calm down a little, Covington continued, “We respected you. We saw you as our elder brother, someone to look up to. But you? You always treated us like outsiders, like we didn’t belong. So tell me, why should we have stayed? Why should we have supported you? All we wanted was to see the Deleon family’s so-called legacy fall apart in your hands!”

Stephen, sensing the perfect moment to stir the pot, eagerly seized the opportunity.

“So why did you surrender earlier? Can’t you see they’re just trying to play the sympathy card? You’ve always been clear about it, haven’t you?” His voice took on a sharper edge as he continued, “He never saw you as family. And it wasn’t just him—his father was no different. He deliberately gave you a new surname, treating you as nothing more than servants to the Deleon family!”

Covington and the other two, who had been swayed moments ago, suddenly had their expressions darken. Their eyes turned cold and sharp, like hardened steel.

Gritting his teeth, Covington stepped forward and declared, “I take back what I said about admitting defeat. Let’s continue the competition. As for your omelet? It’s awful. It deserves a score of zero!”

From Ashton’s perspective, the rift between Malcom and the Figueroa brothers could still be repaired. The brothers had already expressed their feelings, and all it would take was for Malcom to communicate honestly. Maybe, just maybe, they could move past it.

But then, all of a sudden, Stephen intervened, throwing everything into disarray and reigniting tensions between the two sides.

Ashton’s expression darkened. “Mr. Crawford, this isn’t your stage. Could someone please show Mr. Crawford the door? He’s not welcome here today.”
