With a raised eyebrow directed at Liam, Ashton declared confidently, “Anyone can spout off insults, but winning takes actual talent. Enough talk. Let’s see who’s really the best on the track.”
He then turned to examine the race car adjacent to Isaac and remarked, “You’ve done a lot to your car, haven’t you? It might be too much for me. I’ll stick with my new ride for the race.”
His choice stirred a buzz among Liam’s group. Everyone understood the vast difference in performance between an ordinary family vehicle and a heavily modified race car—from acceleration and handling to gear shifting, every element could significantly influence the outcome.
Though Ashton’s vehicle was a sports coupe, it was fundamentally just a regular car. Opting to race such a car against a souped-up race machine was a bold move indeed.
Ashton’s unwavering confidence seemed to infuriate Liam. Nevertheless, Liam quickly formed a smug assumption. He figured Ashton lacked racing skills and was picking an ordinary car as a fallback for his anticipated defeat.
Sneering, Liam mocked, “I bet you already know you’re going to lose, so you chose that car just to have an excuse when you do!”
The gang members standing behind Liam joined in, taunting, “Exactly! You know you’re beaten and are just trying to squirm your way out! You can’t fool us. When you lose, there’ll be no excuses left for you!”
Under Liam’s influence, the race drew a sizeable crowd of affluent onlookers. Other than Isaac, no one had faith in Ashton.

For over two years, he had reigned supreme on this mountainous track, earning the title of undisputed king of the winding road.
Despite thinking that racing against a pretty boy like Ashton was overblown, Mountain Dog reluctantly accepted the challenge. He gave Ashton’s car a scornful look before sliding into his race car and lining up at the start.
Before the race commenced, Mountain Dog mockingly flashed a thumbs-down at Ashton from behind his window. He considered the race to be trivial, hardly a topic worth mentioning over a meal. Yet, the moment the race kicked off, his earlier arrogance turned to regret.
Ashton’s reaction time shattered all expectations. The moment the horn blared, Ashton’s car surged ahead, rapidly gaining a lead of several car lengths over his rival.
