Chapter 89
Chapter 89:
Under normal conditions, Selena would have been considered too far gone to save.
Yet, with the crowd watching and due to Fraser’s arrangements, Julius had no choice but to persevere with the treatment despite his reservations.
However, Selena’s actual state was far worse than Fraser had led him to believe.
According to Julius’s medical experience, Selena was as good as gone, and continuing resuscitation efforts seemed futile. His hands shook so violently that he struggled to properly use the defibrillator for CPR.
As he clumsily navigated the emergency procedures, his panic deepened. None of his actions seemed to make any difference; it was as though his efforts were disappearing into nothingness.
The more agitated Julius became, the more errors he made. Each successive attempt only deteriorated Selena’s condition further.
Eventually, he administered some fast-acting heart medication to Selena. Abruptly, she started coughing violently, and blood began to trickle from her mouth.
The onlookers gasped in horror at the sight.
Jenna and the other girls blanched with fear.
Jenna, Selena’s best friend, was especially distraught. She asked urgently, “Dr. Mitchell! What’s going on? Why does it look like Selena is getting worse?”
Julius, mopping the sweat from his brow, replied hesitantly, “She’s coughing up clotted blood. It’s a sign that her condition might be improving.”
Julius lacked any real confidence despite his assurances. He had exhausted every conceivable strategy, even resorting to quick-acting heart pills in a desperate bid to save her.
Who could have foreseen such an outcome?

Nearby, Ashton’s voice cut through the air with icy detachment. “Clotted blood stagnates; it ceases to flow.”
Once the circulation stops, the blood rapidly turns into black clots. If it hasn’t solidified yet, the color would be dark, not the vivid red you’re claiming.”
Julius was taken aback by how swiftly Ashton saw through his ruse. Sweat broke out on his forehead, and his body began to shake.
Fraser, observing his distress, cleared his throat and calmly advised, “Don’t lose your composure, Dr. Mitchell. Remain steady. I trust you’ll devise a solution to rescue Selena. Consider all possibilities.”
Startled by Fraser’s prompt, Julius’s eyes flickered to the mysterious syringe tucked away at the bottom of his medical kit—a placement he knew was Fraser’s doing.
Was this what Fraser was hinting at?
With no alternatives left, Julius resolved to put his faith in the syringe.
Disregarding Ashton’s scrutinizing stare, he clenched his teeth and seized the syringe.
In that instant, Ashton leapt into action.
Although he was unsure of Julius’s intentions, his instincts screamed that the outcome would be perilous if Julius succeeded.
Closing the distance, Ashton stepped in front of Selena and shoved Julius away with a swift kick.
Determined to shield Selena from unknown dangers, Ashton would not stand by and watch.
Without waiting for a reaction from the others, Ashton dropped to his knees and started administering CPR.
The girls, witnessing Ashton touch Selena’s chest, finally grasped the gravity of the situation and began to scream. Jenna, in particular, became frantic. She tried to yank Ashton away, shouting indignantly, “Jerk! Your vile intentions are clear now! You’re just trying to exploit Selena!”
With a fierce look in his eyes, Ashton shot back, “If you care about Selena’s life, be quiet and stay out of the way!” Jenna, struck by the intensity of his glare, stopped dead in her tracks.
Now that he had a moment of calm, Ashton focused all his efforts on reviving Selena.
