Chapter 266
"Ultimately, Phillip's vision was too narrow. He lost the ambition to climb higher up the ladder after reaching the director level. It was then that I finally believed my parents to be right—a person's background shaped their perspective. No matter how talented someone is, they won't amount to anything if their vision is too narrow!" Clarice said.
Jack was intelligent enough to understand what she meant. She came from an affluent family, while Phillip was an ordinary man. Perhaps the life he thought was successful enough was only the beginning for her.
Once a person lost their ambition and motivation, they would also lose their capabilities. This belief was enough to prove how arrogant Clarice was.
When Jack didn't say anything, she abruptly switched subjects and asked, "Besides, do you really know Bella? Do you know what her hobbies are? Can you afford them? She's passionate about traveling-l prepare a travel fund for her every summer so she can explore the world and expand her horizons.
"She also has high standards for the places she stays in-she only chooses the best hotels in the countries she goes to, and she's stayed there more than once. In fact, this restaurant..."
She gestured at the menu. "You might think this is an expensive meal, but it's nothing out of the ordinary for Bella."
Jack frowned. He didn't expect Bella to come from such a wealthy family.
Clarice's tone became slightly disdainful when she saw his reaction. "I'm not trying to bring you down or brag about anything, young man. The fact that you got into Alnewgo University is enough to prove your abilities. I just want you to know you and Bella come from different worlds. There's no way you can afford her expensive lifestyle."
She thought her words were enough to make him give up and back down, but his expression turned resolute as he said, "I can."
She scoffed. "If you two continue to be together, I'll cut off all of Bella's financial support."
When the time came, Jack would understand the difficulties of not having any money. Clarice was positive he and Bella didn't have a future together.
He remained unwavering, though. His tone even took on a hint of scorn as he said, "If that's all you have to say, Mrs. Cole, I should get going."
This finally pissed her off. She said frostily, "There's one more thing I wanted to tell you—I've already selected a fiancé for Bella. Your relationship with her will never lead to anything."
Jack was taken aback by this, but he remained steadfast as he left the restaurant.
When he got back to his dorm, he received a call from Bella. She asked sweetly, "Where are you, Big Bun?"
"In my dorm."
"Can you come to the library with me for some revision?" She added softly, "I miss you."
"Alright."
In the female dormitory, Luna watched as Bella packed her books to head to the library. She couldn't help smirking. She was cleaning herself up and getting ready to attend a masked ball.
Events like these were good places to meet outstanding young men, and many of them were members of the student council or even the Entrepreneurs Association. She loved the feeling of being surrounded by these people.
She already had a boyfriend, but no one would say no to having more admirers, right? Especially since they were excellent young men.
Just then, Gigi burst into the dorm. She looked at Luna and asked, "Where are you going?"
"To an event," Luna answered.
"Oh, okay. Do you have any plans for next weekend? I heard there's going to be a grand car exhibition at the International Exhibition Center. There are going to be tons of expensive cars on display then!" Gigi said excitedly.
