Chapter 16:

“Mico! Take a chill pill. Relax. You’ll definitely see her, trust the process,” he said, reassuringly.

What I needed in that moment wasn’t reassurance. What I wanted was action. I wanted to see for myself that she was okay.

“So, can I go in now?” I asked, shifting my gaze from the door back to the doctor. It was clear he could read my expression and interpret it accurately.

“Okay then, but please, don’t wake her up,” he said, adjusting his lab coat as he stepped aside, allowing me to enter quietly.

The sight that met my eyes made my heart melt. I felt a deep compassion for her, as though I were the one feeling the pain and going through exactly what she was enduring. I continued to stare at this incredible work of art before me, her curves constantly reminding me of the famous hourglass figure.

Thoughts of her being attacked flooded my mind. She looked so peaceful, as though untouched.

Wonderful, I thought aloud. It was truly a sight to behold.

I stared at her for over thirty minutes before finally making my way to leave.

I walked quietly out of the small room, my mind replaying the events of the past few days.

I made my way to the living room, sinking into the soft embrace of the three-seater couch. I thought and thought, until my father jolted me out of my thoughts.

“A lion only begets a lion. You’re my own carbon copy,” he said, patting me on the shoulder. He was clearly proud of my efforts in rescuing the girl.

“Thanks, Father. Of course, only a lion begets a lion. I have to be like you if I want the best out of life,” I replied.

“You really seem to be attracted to this girl. I can sense it,” he said, looking at me with a mischievous glint in his eyes. We both chuckled as we locked gazes.

“You see, boy, you’re already exactly where I want you to be. I wouldn’t mind if you got a mate now,” he said. It was as though he read my mind. Without giving it a second thought—where she was from, her background, her people, or her pack—I had already made up my mind to take her as my mate.

“Actually, Father, I did what I did out of benevolence. We’ll try to find out where she’s from and what her people are like when she wakes up,” I said, lost in my thoughts again as I stared into space.

“Well, let’s leave this conversation for later. I just hope she’s responding well to the treatment,” he replied.

Thoughts of how and where she was from filled my mind. I was determined to uncover exactly how she ended up with those men and what led them to try to take her life.

Mico’s POV

My ever-handsome son was always full of surprises.

I waited a great deal that fateful evening. A meeting that was supposed to end earlier was now taking what felt like an eternity to come to an abrupt end.

“Where have you been, Tristan? I’ve called you several times, but you didn’t pick up. What’s wrong?” I asked, nearly pulling my hair out in frustration.
