Chapter 34:

“Would you all like to spend the night here?” Mr. Mico asked.

“No, sir. I have to get to work immediately. I wouldn’t want to disappoint Miss Emily,” I quickly replied. I can’t afford to stay the night here when I know that Amira is here. I might do something crazy before morning.

“We will see you off then. It’s getting dark,” he said, getting up.

“What’s the matter with you, Christian? You haven’t said a word since we were in the car, and you didn’t answer any of my goddamn questions,” Mom said as I alighted from the car in anger.

“You all should just let me be,” I said, not even glancing at her.

What should I do to stop this from happening? I have questions that need answers, and she is the only one who can provide them. But marrying Tristan is something I never even dreamed of.

The Moon Goddess has a reason for making us cross paths again, and I’m confident that the reason isn’t to bring me shame. It feels more like a second chance than a shameful turn of events. The ball is in my court, and I must play it wisely, but I’m unsure of what step to take next.

I don’t want to provoke Amira’s wrath. I just need to handle things with care, so I don’t lose her completely. Speaking with Mr. Mico might not be a bad idea. It sounds like something productive could come out of it. She is mine, and I will do whatever it takes to get her back.

Emily’s POV

As soon as dinner was over, I couldn’t help but replay everything that happened during the meal. The look on Christian’s face when he heard that we would be helping his company made my heart flutter. The smile on his face was priceless. But when Mr. Mico shared the news about Tristan and me getting married, the joyful expression on Christian’s face immediately faded. I almost thought he would withdraw his support and change his mind, but I’m sure he’s moved on with his long-time lover—or maybe not.

“Are you okay?” Tristan asked, his gaze fixed on me.

“Yes, I’m fine,” I replied with a smile as we patiently waited for Mr. Mico to see them off and come back to address us.

I’m sure he has something important to say about the meeting. So, here we were, waiting for him to return. I couldn’t help but enjoy the surprise on Sheela’s face when she saw me. If she hadn’t sent me on that errand five years ago, I would still be with Christian. But then again, if I were still with him, I wouldn’t have met these wonderful people who took me in as family without caring about my past.

They didn’t care if I was cursed or not, and for once in my life, I felt the warmth of a family. I’m certain they would defend me just as Christian would, but whatever Adrian did in the past turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

That doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten what he did to me. I will make sure he pays for the pain he caused.

Accepting this contract is mostly to help Christian with his company, and the only reason I’m helping him is because of the kindness he showed me in the past. He stayed by my side when everyone else deserted me, calling me a cursed child.

As for Adrian, I’ll make him pay and also find out why he wants me dead. There has to be a reason behind his actions.

“You’re here, Dad?” Tristan said, wrapping my hand in his large palm.
