“And as for the company, I don’t care if Mr. Mico refuses to help me because of you. I don’t mind losing everything I have just to have you. That’s how crazy I am about you.”

“You really are crazy, Christian. Let go of me and get out of my way this instant,” I said, raising my voice slightly.

“If you leave now, I will be forced to do something even crazier, and that will put you in an even tighter situation. So please, don’t go,” he pleaded.

“I have nothing to say to you. Do your worst—that won’t stop me from leaving,” I said, forcefully freeing my hand from his strong grip.

Mr. Mico’s POV

“My Lord, Alpha Christian is here to see you,” one of the guards announced.

“Alpha Christian?” I asked in surprise.

“Yes, my Lord,” he replied.

“Have him wait for me in the living area. I’ll join him shortly, and make sure he is well taken care of,” I said.

What does he want to see me for? I was curious to know. Emily and Tristan handled everything concerning the pack, and I trusted them completely. I would soon entrust Tristan with full responsibility for the pack because I wouldn’t be here forever—especially now that illness had begun to take hold of my body.

“Alpha Christian,” I called as I entered, making him rise respectfully.

“Good evening, sir,” he greeted, taking my outstretched hand for a handshake.

“Let’s sit,” I said.

“I’m surprised to see you here at this hour. I hope all is well. Or is my daughter-in-law not doing a good job?” I asked with a smile.

“Of course not, that’s not the case. She’s doing a great job, and I must say she is one of the most hardworking and dedicated women I have ever seen,” he said with a bright smile.

“I’m glad to hear that. But I’m sure there’s a reason you came here, and I’m eager to hear what you have to say.”

“Actually, I did come for a reason, just as you suspected. It’s about Ami… I mean, Emily.”

“What about my daughter?” I asked curiously.

“I don’t mean to anger you or get on your bad side, but Emily is actually Amira, and she belongs to my pack.”

I smiled slightly before staring at him.

“Why would an Alpha fight over where an ordinary pack member belongs? Do you fight for the others this way?” I asked, leaning back.

“She is not an ordinary pack member, Mr. Mico, she is far from being ordinary,” Christian said, his voice full of determination.

“How do you mean?” I asked, intrigued.

“She is someone special to me, she is my mate. The only thing I missed was why she left the pack five years ago without telling me. I need to know why and how she ended up here,” he explained.

“Alpha Christian, I know you came to me to make decisions as the head of this pack, but then, I’m sorry to disappoint you.”
