Chapter 9:

My first thought was that it was Alpha Christian, but before I could breathe a sigh of relief and nurture the hope rising within me, I saw a large form emerge from the dark trees.

Gammah Adrian. He was staring at me with that same smirk, murder in his eyes.

Without thinking twice, I began to run.

I ran blindly, pushing through hanging leaves and leaping over tree stumps as fast as my eyes could guide me.

Until a wave of dizziness washed over me. My dizzy spell had suddenly overtaken me, and I stumbled, falling headlong into the open ditch in front of me. This gave him the opportunity he needed.

“You cursed girl…”

ALPHA CHRISTIAN’S POV

Five Years Later

It had been five years since Amira’s death. I had never imagined that grief could be so consuming. All I had left of her were her shredded clothes and the thick bloodstains that proved her death.

How was I supposed to explain what happened to her? If only I had been there at the right time, I could have saved her, just like I had the first time.

For five years, I refused to speak to anyone within the walls of the Stone Mansion. Life felt meaningless to me, and I began to neglect everything that had once been my responsibility.

Even the family business suffered due to my grief. I had lost the ability to function normally, and it extended into every important aspect of my life.

I sat in my open office at the Stone family’s tech company. We had lost numerous deals over the past five years, and as a result, the stature of the company had dwindled.

“I’m sorry to disturb you, sir, but there are some men outside waiting to see you,” my secretary said, walking into my office. I hadn’t even heard her knock, and she knew better than to enter my office without following the proper procedure.

“Did they say who they were?” I asked, scratching my forehead in exhaustion. I had been worrying too much in the past few weeks about what to do with the company. No other tech company was willing to do business with us, or even hand us a project.

I had thought of several promising ideas that I was certain would be valuable and innovative to the public, but I was struggling to secure sponsorships and partnerships for those projects.

Every business I had rejected had caught wind of our decline in productivity and were now hesitant about furthering their alliances with us.

“They are from the Liquidators Group. They want to speak with you, and that’s all they are willing to share with me,” she replied. I understood immediately who they were.

“It’s fine, send them in,” I said to her.

Shortly after she left, two men in black suits walked into my office. One was dark-skinned, and the other had lighter skin.

“Please, have a seat,” I said, ushering them toward the only two seats I had reserved for guests.
