Chapter 1023
Footsteps sounded at the door.
Matthew showed Otto and Durban into the room. Everyone inside was too busy to even notice them walking in.
Otto was confused, trying to figure out who all these people were there was an old man, a young woman, a stunning lady, and guys in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.
Sebastian was the last to enter the room. He took a seat at an empty spot and started playing with his phone, fiddling with it in his hand. He looked so laid-back like he was back home.
Matthew cleared his throat, and people inside the room turned to him.
Smiling, Matthew announced, "I'd like you all to meet a friend of mine. The person next to me is Otto, and he'll be working here from now on. He's a doctor, practicing modern medicine."
Matthew stressed the word "modern medicine" as he introduced Otto.
All eyes were on Otto, and everyone looked puzzled. With all the traditional medicine practitioners around, having a doctor practicing modern medicine was like having a fish out of water. They were all baffled.
Matthew continued, "Otto talks about traditional medicine being a form of mysticism. Even if it helps a little, it's like the witch doctors from thousands of years ago. It's primitive, backward, and foolish."
Everyone's expression changed, looking at Otto indignantly.
Realizing the situation was off, Otto turned to Matthew and asked, "Who are these people?"
Matthew chuckled. "They're all traditional medicine practitioners."
Otto was taken aback for a second, then his expression became awkward. It made sense why everyone gave him those looks.
He smiled nervously and explained, "Don't hold it against me. I'm just addressing the issue, not attacking anyone personally. I don't have a problem with any of you. My point is just about traditional medicine as a whole."
Kingston jumped up and snapped, "What's the problem with traditional medicine? If it works and saves lives, what's the issue? Who are you to belittle it and call it outdated and dumb?"
The more Kingston went on, the more fired up he got. It looked like he wasn't going
to back down until Otto gave him an explanation.
Otto didn't want to escalate things, so he kept his thoughts to himself. He managed a smile that he hoped was calming and gently explained, "Don't be upset. I didn't mean offend you. I'm not against the
people practicing traditional
medicine, but rather just the practice itself."
Kingston got even angrier. He was proud of the Fevera Sect's medicine legacy passed down for centuries, and now Otto openly attacked traditional medicine.
His anger flared up even more as he snapped, "What's wrong with traditional medicine?"
Otto had been holding back what he wanted to say, trying to keep things peaceful. When Kingston questioned him like that, he couldn't keep his anger in check anymore.
"You're asking what's wrong with traditional medicine? Here's what I think. I don't think it's ever been real. It doesn't even exist in the world."
Kingston cursed, "You punk!"
Kingston was livid. Calling traditional medicine primitive, foolish, and outdated was already bad enough, but Otto claimed it didn't even exist, dismissing it completely.
He started off cussing, but eventually just went quiet, not even knowing what to say next.
The air in the room stiffened. Jenny, Renae, Silas, Sebastian, Carson, and Pierre stood up, glaring at Otto.
Furious, Tony jabbed his finger at Otto. "That's nonsense. You can't just dismiss traditional medicine's long history like that. It's been around for thousands of years What are you trying to achieve?
Otto saw the angry looks from everyone and took a step back, feeling intimidated.
He thought for a second before answering Tony's question. "Modern medicine is based on science. For example, colds and fevers are usually caused by inflammation.
"You can see in the blood test results that the percentage of neutrophils, and lymphocytes has changed. Modern medicine focuses opeliminating the inflammation. Sa what's the science behind traditional medicine?"
Otto used a cold as an example because a cold could usually go away on its own in
a week without any medicine.
Even if traditional medicine had examples of herbal medicine curing colds, Otto could argue that colds heal on their own, not because of the medicine.
