Chapter 1058
Matthew looked in surprise at the members of the Evans family kneeling before him. His cold gaze finally settled on Justin's face.
In a frosty tone, he began, "I first heard about the Evans family from Louis. He said the Evans family was the top martial arts family in Lambda City.
"He warned me I'd be digging my own grave if I dared to mess with him. If you're that powerful, why would you now pledge your loyalty to me? Are you kidding me?"
Justin quickly explained, "My grandson Louis was reckless and ignorant. If he had known about your power, Mr. Grant, he wouldn't have talked nonsense. Mr. Grant, my family is serious about this. From now on, we will move under your lead."
Soren stood dumbfounded. He was unable to keep up with the sharp turn of events.
Just moments ago, there was bloodshed. Dylan had been stabbed twice, and he was still bleeding from the wounds. The blood had pooled on the ground.
Yet, no one called 911. They couldn't care less about Dylan's life. Meanwhile, Dylan's father was kneeling and pledging his loyalty to Matthew.
Matthew snorted dismissively, "Stop right there. Pledging your loyalty to me? Forget it."
With that, he turned to leave. In the modern world, everyone was equal. He didn't care if the Evans family saw themselves as an elite cultivator clan. Even ordinary citizens had their dignity. No one would grovel to another.
He didn't believe a word coming out of Justin's mouth.
Justin froze as Matthew walked toward the door. The Evans family was the top family in Lambda City. Sure, the Hobbes family had tried to win them over. The first thing Lorenzo did upon arriving in the city was to make the Evans family an ally.
As such, Justin couldn't believe Matthew would turn him down, even after all the kneeling and pleading.
Justin recalled Matthew's words about potentially settling scores while drunk. He shivered at the thought.
Seeing that Matthew was nearing the door, he limped desperately after him, blocking the exit and kneeling again before Matthew.
"Mr. Grant beg you to accept the Evans family's loyalty pledge. We have three branches. Each branch of the Evans family consists of around 30 members totaling members. Out of those, 16 are cultivators.
"Each of the 16 can hold their own. They are figures that ordinary people look up to. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with."
Matthew replied coolly, "A force to be reckoned with? If so, why are you kneeling before me?"
Justin's face froze. He had been trying to highlight the strength of the Evans family to prove their worth, but Matthew's response caught him off guard.
Seeing Justin at a loss for words, Matthew's tone turned icy. "Let me tell you something. Do not think too highly of your family. In reality, you're nothing."
He didn't say that just to belittle Justin; he truly believed so. Take the assassins of The Misfortune's Veib for example. They were all ordinary people delivery drivers, farmers, chauffeurs, chefs. But if they set ther minds to it, they could kill members of the Evan's family without them even knowing how they died.
Matthew's cold voice rang out again. "Move aside. Don't block my way."
Justin didn't dare let Matthew leave.
What if Matthew got drunk one day and decided to take revenge, against the Evans family? They would be doomed! But stopping Matthew from leaving wasn't a viable solution either.
Just as Justin was at a loss, his eyes suddenly lit up he thought of one of Matthew's weaknesses.
He quickly warned, "Mr. Grant, if you leave, I'll follow you on my knees wherever you go. I beg you to take us in. If you won't, just kill me!"
With that, he stretched out his neck and held up the knife with both hands, offering it to Matthew as if inviting Matthew to slit his throat.
Matthew frowned at Justin, who would not stop pestering him. A cold glint appeared across his eyes. His face darkened as he said, "Try me, then."
As he spoke, he reached out and grabbed the knife.
Justin shuddered violently. He felt as though the world was spinning, and he nearly fainted on the spot. Did his gamble go wrong this time? Was Matthew really going to kill him?
