Chapter 710

Matthew continued making his way to the entrance of Silverbrook Village.

Yesterday, he had sent Stanley, Lillian, and Lorraine to the ninth floor of Opulent Club, so he was ready to face the assassins from The Misfortune's Veil and The Fate Order. As expected, they were here.

In a black RV by the village entrance, Merrick Densmore lit a cigar and took a puff before exhaling a cloud of smoke. As the first division leader of The Misfortune's Veil, this was his first time sending out so many people at once.

Usually, killing someone only took one person, or an extra helper if needed. They'd never need more than two people to stage an accident and finish the job. But this time, the client paid too much, and there were too many targets.

With Matthew's family and others as targets, Merrick had no choice but to dispatch everyone from the first division. But he had faith in his men, confident that their coordination would make the task a breeze.

Suddenly, a knock on the window broke the silence. With a cigar between his lips, Merrick didn't bother to look over and coldly stated, "Come in."

The first person to complete the job was already back. It was way quicker than expected.

With a click, the car door swung open. Matthew got in and took a seat without hesitation. Merrick took a drag and blew out a thick puff of smoke.

He casually asked, "Out of the four in the family, who did you take out?"

As he spoke, he turned to look at his subordinate. When he caught sight of Matthew's face, he flinched in fright. His cigar snapped and fell from his hand.

"A-aren't you Matthew?"

Matthew coldly responded, "That's right. It's me."

Fear flickered in the depth of Merrick's eyes. He'd taken many lives before, but it always happened unnoticed.

Sometimes it was a dropped billboard, other times a flowerpot falling from a balcony, or just a gentle push when the target walked downstairs.

Like a grim reaper lurking in the shadows, Merrick always stayed out of sight and never met his target face-to-face. This was a first for him. Overwhelmed with fear, he suddenly felt the sudden to flee.

Matthew asked in a chilling voice, "Are you with The Misfortune's Veil?"

Merrick leaned to the side, trying to put some distance between him and Matthew. "H-how did you know?"

With a blank expression, Matthew pressed his questions further. "How many of you showed up this time?"

Merrick gradually calmed down. "What do you want, Matthew?"

Matthew's voice turned icy. "Not going to spill, huh? Fine. You asked for it."

As Matthew spoke, he grabbed a stainless steel cup beside the seat and swung it hard at Merrick's head, landing three solid hits in quick succession.

Merrick's head was bleeding profusely as he screamed in agony. "It's killing me. Stop. Don't hit me. I'm going to die."

Matthew sat back down, and the blood from the cup dripped onto the white mat. "You've killed plenty of people, haven't you? Why are you afraid of dying?"

Merrick huddled up, holding his head. "Don't lash out at me, and don't hate me either. I'm just doing my job. You should be mad at the person who paid for your death.

"Listen up. The person you pissed off has deep pockets. He's offering so much money that every assassin in the world would want to take you out. Even if you found us and got away this time, you won't be so lucky next time."

With a grim look, Matthew declared, "There won't be next time. I won't give him another chance."

Merrick shook his head. "He's got serious money, with dozens of bodyguards. Good luck getting near him. No money how tough you are, you can't beat money. You better get out of here fast. Leave Lambda City, and you might just survive."

Matthew's eyes were blazing with murderous intent. "I want him dead, and no one can stop me. What's money is going to do for him? After he's dead, his cash will be just worthless pieces of paper."
