Chapter 443

Hearing his question, Evangeline hesitated. After some thought, she decided to keep her deal with Soren a secret.

It wasn't that she had a guilty conscience. In fact, she felt she had nothing to be guilty about.

Soren had transferred the money willingly; she hadn't tricked him out of it.

In her mind, she considered the money an investment from Soren into UME. She would pay him back once she had the funds.

But while that was her plan, Glenn would likely see it differently.

She knew Glenn didn't want her to have anything more to do with Soren. If he found out the money was from him, he would definitely make her return it.

UME desperately needed capital right now. If she returned the money, Glenn would have to find a way to fill that gap.

She was confident Glenn could do it, but she didn't want to burden him with that stress.

After returning from his search for Theresa, Glenn had been hit with the devastating news of her fall from the cliff, followed by a sleepless search for her. She had heard that after he left the Lockridge estate that day, he had collapsed in his car and had suffered from intermittent fevers and colds since.

But every time she contacted him, Glenn hid it from her. It was Theo who told her about it later.

Evangeline didn't want him to worry any more than he already had.

"Finn is optimistic about this project. He thinks it has a lot of potential. He heard we might be short on funds, so he invested."

Glenn was puzzled. "Then why didn't he come to me himself?"

"Maybe he was afraid you'd refuse," Evangeline replied.

Glenn still seemed skeptical.

Evangeline didn't give him a chance to ask more questions. She told him about Lily being the mole and asked for his thoughts.

Glenn fell silent, his eyes lowered in thought for a long moment. "Poppy is the final person in charge of new product design," he said.

"Do

you

think she knew about it?"

"Or rather, what do you think the chances are that she instigated Lily and the others to impress Soren?"

Glenn looked up at her.

Evangeline hadn't considered this. She was slightly taken aback by his words.

"Why do you ask that?" she said.

Glenn shook his head. "It's just a guess. You can take it with a grain of salt."

Even Glenn felt his idea lacked concrete evidence.

It was just that in all his years in the industry, he knew almost every talented technician, but he had never heard the name Poppy.

Yet, in less than a year, Poppy had soared to become the head of Fawkes Enterprises' Tech Division.

While Soren's influence was a factor,

based on his understanding of

Soren he didnt think he would

gamble with Fawkes Enterprises'

future, even if he had feelings for Poppy.

Unless Poppy had boasted to Soren or made some kind of promise.

He felt that, to fulfill a promise to Soren, Poppy was not incapable of doing such a

thing.

"Let Theo handle this for now. He'll take care of it," Glenn said.

He paused, his voice softening. "How is Tessa doing?"

Evangeline's voice also grew softer.

Ever since she learned that Theresa was safe the heavy weight in her heart had lifted, and even her voice held a lighter tone got in touch with her a while ago. She's safe now."

Glenn nodded.

He breathed a sigh of relief, but for some reason, his right eyelid began to twitch uncontrollably.

At the Lockridge Manor.

Theresa, dressed in a maid's uniform, diligently cleaned the living room, but all her attention was focused upstairs.

It had been nearly six hours since the doctor went upstairs.

He had been in there for so long. She had no idea how Victor was doing.

Theresa couldn't help but recall Victor's face from not long ago, his eyes crimson, his expression savage and vicious.

She hadn't seen him in five or six years, and the murderous aura around him had grown even stronger.

He seemed sicker than before.

But it would be better if he never woke up.

When he killed Ji Nian, it was as if he had delivered revenge for both Ji Nian and Evangeline to her on a silver platter.

Theresa took a deep breath.

She thought about what Soren had

told her when he came back just

before leaving-about the horrible

things Victor had done Evangeline:
