Chapter 448
As she spoke, Poppy naturally linked her arm with Soren's.
But this time, Soren subtly pushed her away.
Evangeline paid them no mind and tactfully prepared to leave.
"Evangeline," Poppy suddenly called out to her.
Evangeline looked over, wondering what scheme she was plotting now.
She glanced around and smiled. "What is it? Here to apologize?"
"Sorry, but the deal was a public apology. Right now, there are only three of us here.
If you apologize now, I'll just assume you're not being sincere."
Hearing this, Poppy's face turned a pale shade of green and white. Evangeline's words were like grinding her face into the dirt.
Poppy was visibly provoked.
Barely maintaining her composure, she forced a smile and gently placed a hand on her stomach.
"I'll arrange for an apology that satisfies you later."
"What I wanted to say is, I'm pregnant with Soren's baby. Could I ask you, for the sake of this innocent child, to go easy on Soren? Can we discuss whatever issues you have after he's discharged from the hospital?”
As Poppy finished, Soren glanced at her stomach. His lips moved, but no sound came out.
Evangeline had to laugh. "First of all, he's the one who came looking for me. Instead of pleading with me, you, as his fiancée, should probably do a better job of managing him."
"Besides, who doesn't have a child? Finn and I have our own child waiting for me to come home and feed him."
As soon as the words left her mouth, Evangeline realized her mistake.
She was talking about Sheriff, the little kitten Finn was raising.
Sheriff was three months old but still small and skinny due to poor nutrition early on.
Evangeline, thinking he was in a crucial growth period, had been supplementing his cat food with goat's milk formula every day. Sheriff seemed to dislike the taste and would never drink it on his own. She always had to hold the bowl right in front of him before he would deign to drink half of it.
Finn would often ask her with a hint of jealousy if she was treating Sheriff like their child, spoiling him so much. She had retorted, half-jokingly and half-seriously, that the kitten was indeed their child. Now, in the heat of the moment, the words had just slipped out.
By the time she realized what she'd said, she saw Soren's expression darken and knew she had misspoken. But she didn't feel the need to explain herself to them.
Soren's face was grim. "What child? Evangeline, you'd better explain yourself." "Do you remember what you promised me?"
Evangeline said, "I don't remember promising you I wouldn't have children."
"You..."
In a fit of anger, Soren raised the arm on his injured side without thinking pulling at his wound The pain made his face turn pale.
Poppy rushed to support him. "Soren, don't get upset. Your health is more important."
"Let me take you back to the hospital."
Soren didn't move. He stared at Evangeline, his dark eyes filled with rage.
Poppy quickly added, "Evangeline and Finn have only known each other for half a
year. How could they possibly have a child?"
"Besides, have you forgotten? The doctor said it would be very difficult for
Evangeline to have children again."
"She's just trying to provoke you."
"Soren, Evangeline is deliberately trying to make you angry."
At Poppy's words, Soren finally calmed down, and the color gradually returned to his face.
With things at this point, he didn't linger. Supported by Poppy, he got into the car. Moments later, the luxury car sped away.
Evangeline stared in the direction the car had gone and let out a self-deprecating laugh.
Even though she had long stopped
caring, she was still taken aback that
Soren had shared something as private as her fertility with Poppy
She scoffed.
Just as she was about to get back in her car, Finn's call came through again.
Evangeline then remembered that with the interruption from Soren and Poppy, she had completely forgotten to call him back.
Finn had wanted to pick her up, but he had an unexpected business trip today. She figured he was calling because he was worried.
Evangeline was just about to answer.
Suddenly, the roar of engines
erupted from a distance. Dozens of
cars seemed to materialize out of
nowhere and in
matter
seconds, they had her completely
surrounded from all sides.
