Chapter 1015

Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess · Dana E.

Rowan kept his cool, smiling warmly. "You young folks have your own world. I'm getting on in years; living with me would be no fun. You'll understand once Wilder ties the knot."

Cole pressed on, "I heard you remarried later. Don't they live with you either?"

Rowan's smile faltered for a moment, but he maintained his composure. "Let's not talk about that. It's quite the scandal. You'll find out in due time."

Sensing Rowan's reluctance, Cole decided to drop the topic and excused himself after exchanging a few more words.

As Cole drove off, the three of them settled into the car. Wilder remarked, "Dad, Uncle's looking a bit off. He might be sick."

Wilder, who worked as a doctor in Japan, was now in the States intending to find a new job.

Makiko reminded him gently, "Wilder, let's keep such observations private, okay? No need to share them around."

"Got it, Mom," Wilder replied.

Sitting in the back, Wilder pondered why Cole insisted they learn Chinese. Wasn't he supposed to have lost his memory? Yet, maybe it was a way for Cole to stay connected to his native tongue.

Cole broke the silence, "Wilder, have you secured a position at a hospital yet?" "Not yet. I plan to look around today. Dad, are we really settling here for good?"

Sandi piped up with youthful enthusiasm, "Of course we are! Grandpa's loaded, and Dad stands to inherit a part of it."

"Ningning, watch your mouth!" Cole snapped, voice stern.

Sandi shrank back, muttering an apology.

Makiko added, "Remember to behave and not trouble your dad. We don't want to make things difficult for him."

Both Sandi and Wilder fell silent, the atmosphere in the car growing heavy.

...

Meanwhile, Oliver was on the phone with Josefina, discussing gifts for Cole's family.

"Josie, what do you think would be a suitable gift for Cole's family?"

Josefina, having just taken a break, sipped her water. "Leave it to me. Do you know their preferences?"

"Not really. It's been ages, and even Grandpa is unsure."

"Alright, I'll handle it. Let's visit them this evening," Josefina suggested.

"I'll come pick you up," Oliver's tone softened.

"Sounds good. I need to tidy up my dorm since I'm on break."

"I can lend a hand or send someone to help if you think I'll stand out."

"No need. I travel light and I don't stay in the dorm much anyway."

With that, Josefina hung up and headed to her dorm. It was bustling, yet she was the only one packing.

Mandy, her roommate, was taken aback. "Josie, packing already? Are you leaving the dorm?"
