Chapter 1070

Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess · Dana E.

The only lead they had was Dominic.

"Tomorrow, I'll go see Dominic with Oliver," Josefina said, trying to put Dorian's mind at ease.

Oliver, who had caught up with them, overheard and jumped in. "Josie, let me handle Dominic. You shouldn't go. It's not exactly the best place, and it might upset you."

Dorian nodded in agreement. "Oliver's right, Josie. Just listen to us and stay here." Josefina, always one to heed good advice, agreed. "Okay, I won't go."

With a flick of his wrist, Oliver produced a little surprise—a skewer of candied fruit, its sugary glaze shimmering in the light. Josefina's eyes lit up like the night sky as she accepted it.

"Thanks," she said, taking a bite. The candy coating cracked delightfully, revealing the juicy fruit beneath. It was delicious.

Dorian gave Oliver a sideways glance, surprised by this thoughtful gesture. To him, Oliver was just a cold, calculating money-making machine. It was things like this that made him uneasy about his sister marrying him. But now, well, Oliver seemed just a little more likable-by the tiniest fraction.

...

The family was in the middle of dinner when Annika's terrified scream broke through the air.

"Help, Ms. Josefina! Sir, ma'am, there's a ghost!"

Josefina set down her fork and headed toward the commotion.

Oliver, quick on his feet, positioned himself protectively in front of Josefina. "What's going on?"

Annika, catching her breath, explained, "We were working on the chicken coop, and there was this... ghostly thing just lying there. I thought it was a rock and sat right on it, and it collapsed under me."

She was tearful. "How was I supposed to know it wasn't a rock?"

Dorian stood up. "I'll check it out. Josie, you stay here."

Oliver added, "Josie, keep eating. We'll handle it."

But Josefina held Oliver back. "Let's all go see what's going on."

Her curiosity was piqued. Was this a case of science or something more mystical? Only seeing it for herself could answer that question.

"Fine, Josie," Oliver relented, "but you stay behind me at all times, and if anything happens, we leave immediately."

Hattie, was torn. She didn't want

Josefina to go, but she couldn't deny her own curiosity Who wouldn' want to know if their house was being haunted?

"Don't worry," Josefina reassured them. "I won't be in the front. I'll just take a quick look from a distance."

With Josefina's promise, they all decided to go. Garrett grabbed a gleaming machete, while Dorian armed himself with a handgun.、 Hattie after a moment's thought, decided against carrying anything fearing she might accidentally hurt herself.

Oliver picked up a sturdy iron rod and helped Josefina into a warm down jacket. Together, they set off.

Annika, despite being scared out of her wits, couldn't resist joining the group. She grabbed two kitchen knives and followed them.

The trek was a long one, taking them twenty minutes to reach the site. Sometimes, having a large estate wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

When they finally arrived, Annika gulped nervously, trying to muster her courage. "Adam's keeping an eye on it lt's right up ahead. It's terrifying really gave me a fright

Just then, the thing they were watching over spoke. Its voice was rough, as though it

had weathered countless storms. "Who are you?"

Annika, knives in each hand, boldly declared, "The Double-Bladed Granny!"
