Chapter 1111
Josefina was absolutely loving her plate of spicy, sizzling grilled fish. It was bass, known for its lack of bones, and she couldn't have been more thrilled.
Oliver was diligently picking the fish meat off the bones and setting it on Josefina's plate, which she happily devoured with gusto.
"Oliver, you should eat some too. You don't have to just feed me,” Josefina said, taking a pause between bites.
"I'm not hungry, you enjoy," Oliver insisted, continuing to place flaky pieces in front of her.
They were halfway through their meal when Alex and Deanna strolled in. Josefina, facing the entrance, spotted them as she chatted with Oliver.
"Well, would you look at that, Alex and Deanna are totally an item!” Josefina remarked with a mischievous grin.
Oliver looked confused. He turned to see Alex and Deanna, who seemed quite cheerful together and undeniably made a charming pair. Whether they were actually a couple, he couldn't say for sure.
As Josefina's eyes met Deanna's from across the room, Deanna subtly tugged on Alex's sleeve. Alex, still clueless, laughed and asked what was up.
"Ms. Josefina has spotted us," Deanna whispered quickly, stepping back a bit from Alex.
Alex hadn't expected to bump into Josefina here. The company wasn't keen on office romances, and he figured Josefina would likely share that sentiment.
Eventually, Deanna and Alex made their way over to Josefina and Oliver's table.
"Ms. Josefina, what a surprise running into you here!" Alex greeted with a bright smile.
"What a coincidence! Why don't you join us?" Josefina suggested warmly.
Deanna and Alex settled down, joining Josefina and Oliver for the meal. Josefina couldn't help but notice how well-matched Deanna and Alex appeared, her
conviction growing stronger as the meal went on.
However, Alex found it hard to savor his meal, nerves getting the better of him. Deanna felt the same, both sitting there awkwardly.
"Alex, we're done. We'll head out now. You two take your time," Josefina said, rising as Oliver helped her with her coat.
Alex exchanged polite goodbyes, and Josefina reassured him with a smile, “Relax, just enjoy your meal."
As they left, Oliver discreetly covered Alex and Deanna's tab as well.
Once alone, Deanna hesitantly broke the silence, "Alex, maybe we should call it quits. Ms. Josefina saw us, and she probably figured out our relationship."
"Deanna, I don't want to end things with you," Alex replied, earnestness in his voice. With eyes brimming, Deanna held Alex's hand, “I don't want to either.”
As they gazed at each other, Alex made up his mind. Deanna felt assured that Alex was willing to do anything for her.
"But Alex, you can't just leave the company for me," Deanna said softly.
"Don't be silly, I don't need to leave. I'll ask Ms. Josefina to transfer you to another department or a different branch,” Alex said with
determination.
Deanna was taken aback; this wasn't the outcome she'd hoped for.
"But if we're not in the same office, I'll miss seeing you every day," she confessed.
"We'll catch up after work. During the day, we'll handle our own tasks, and in the evening, I'm all yours," Alex reassured her, holding her hands firmly.
"Deanna, the company relies on me right now. Leaving would be ungrateful to Ms. Josefina for all she's done for me."
Deanna had only been at the
company for a short time, still in ber
probation period. Alex believed she'd adapt well to a new environment. If hedeft, he'd feel be was letting Josefina down.
After weighing his options, he decided Deanna would have to bear this inconvenience. But Alex vowed to make it up to her for the rest of their lives.
Deanna felt let down and hadn't expected Alex to come up with such a plan.
