Chapter 1121
"What were the results?" Josefina asked, trying to keep the anticipation out of her voice.
Percy replied, "I'm heading back to the lab now, and I've got a copy of the data with me. Wanna take a look?"
"I'm already at the lab," Josefina said. "Why don't you and Mandy come back, and we can go over it together."
Josefina was anxious, but as they say, patience is a virtue. She figured it was best to wait for Percy to return and discuss everything face-to-face.
With that resolved, Josefina felt a little more at ease. Hanging up the phone, she stayed put in the lab, waiting.
Oliver, who was nearby, chimed in, "I'll stick around. Once you get to the bottom of this, we can head home together."
Josefina settled into a chair, and Oliver suggested, "Why don't we take a break outside?"
They strolled out to a little gazebo nearby. The daffodils were in full bloom, their bright yellow petals a cheerful sight.
"My mentor cultivated this new variety," Josefina said, gesturing to the flowers. "I didn't expect them to thrive here so well."
Thinking of her mentor led Josefina's mind to Logan. She wondered how he was doing.
Oliver glanced at her, perceptive as ever. "You thinking about Logan?"
Josefina's surprised expression was all the confirmation Oliver needed.
"Don't worry," he reassured her with a chuckle. "I know you don't have feelings for Logan. I'm not the jealous type. If you want, you can bring Logan back."
Josefina was taken aback. "Oliver, what brought this change of heart?"
Did Oliver know something she didn't?
"Josie," he began, using the nickname only he called her by, "I want to be honest with you. Before your mentor left, he told me about your history with Logan. Maybe it's time you brought him back."
Reflecting on the past, Josefina felt a twinge of regret.
Oliver squeezed her hand gently, his voice soft, "Josie, bring him back. Send him to Green Valley. I'm not sure your mentor can handle him alone."
"I'll reach out to my mentor later and find out how Logan's doing before making any decisions," Josefina promised.
As they talked, Percy and Mandy arrived, joining them in the gazebo to discuss the situation.
Percy handed over the report.
"Here's the lab results. This guy isn't Dominic. Darren worked some
magic and got him to talk, but wonet'
can't be sure if he's telling the truth.
He claims he doesn't have a name, just a number 74. He's been altered to look like Dominic and trained to mimic his habits, mannerisms, everything. He can recite Dominic's life as if it were his own."
"So Dominic is the original, and 74 is a copy?" Josefina mused, trying to piece it all together. It wasn't quite what she expected.
But as Percy had mentioned, they still needed to verify the accuracy of 74's information.
"This is a grand scheme," Oliver remarked, shaking his head.
Mandy, who had accompanied Percy during the tests, was still buzzing with excitement. "Working with Percy was eye opening possibilities in medicine are
the
endless."
Her enthusiasm waned slightly as she continued, "But we must never use our medical knowledge for harm!"
The thought made Mandy's blood boil. "These people are despicable!"
With determination, she declared, "Josie, I'm going to study harder and arm myself
with knowledge to outsmart these villains!"
Josefina encouraged her with a smile, "Go for it! I believe you can do it!"
Percy added, "Darren's handling the internal investigation. If they managed to do all this, they've likely got people on the inside. It'll take time for Darren to sort it out, so we'll have to be patient for more news."
Josefina nodded in agreement.
After some more discussion, Oliver and Josefina decided to head home. In the car, Oliver had a thought.
"Josie, maybe we should start with ourselves. To prevent being replaced without knowing, let's come up with a secret code."
Josefina's eyes lit up at the idea, and she kissed Oliver on the cheek. "You're brilliant, my love. Always thinking ahead."
