Makiko explained, "Josefina is just eighteen but she's already making waves since reconnecting with the Harrison family. Don't let her age fool you—this girl's got her hands in everything. She's a whiz at fashion design and even knows her way around medicine. Word on the street is she's the brains behind JoyLife Tech. Plus, she's tight with Luke, who runs a security firm. The Salisbury and Rowland families over in Westwood are pretty tight with her too."

As Makiko spoke, her frustration grew. It was unbelievable how different kids could be. If her own daughter were as stellar as Josefina, she'd have so much less to stress about. Maybe she'd been too soft-hearted.

“Let's hit pause on our current plans. We need to focus on building strong ties with the Baldwin and Harrison families. Start with getting on Brandon's good side from the Baldwins."

Makiko was taken aback. "Stop our experiment? That's going to cost us big time! I could move it somewhere else and start fresh."

"Makiko, now's not the time for a reset. If we mess this up, we might never get a shot at running our experiments in the States again.”

With a reluctant sigh, Makiko knew she had to go along with it.

"Pass my message to Cole. Whether or not to move forward, that's his call," the elder's voice turned sharp.

"I understand,” Makiko said, ending the call.

Makiko made her way to Wilder's company. Inside, Wilder sat in his office, looking lost and unlike his usual confident self.

"Wilder," Makiko greeted as she took a seat.

Wilder snapped back to focus, seeing Makiko walk in. "Mom, what brings you here?”

Makiko smiled, "I wanted to check in on you. Don't stress too much, Wilder. I've brought in two top-notch techies to help boost your output. Even if things are quiet now, don't worry. The product is the real star! I'll help you reach new heights.”

Wilder was surprised, "You brought in techs, Mom?"

"Yeah, they're in the tech department already. You need results, not just hype. Get the work done, and the buzz will come."

Makiko's encouragement cleared Wilder's mind. Unlike Cole's harsh words, her support was comforting.

Josefina and Oliver stood outside, watching Hex through the glass as he confessed it all.
