Chapter 1279

Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess · Dana E.

Josefina caught on right away, but she didn't look the least bit surprised.

"Have the PR team try to cool things off online. I still need to cooperate with the police, and Dr. Zheng hasn't given me any answers yet. For now, we don't know why the models fainted."

"Ms. Josefina, I've already had them start, but the trending topics aren't easy to suppress."

"Just do what you can. If it doesn't work, that's fine." She hung up.

Right now, all she could do was wait for the investigation. Everything else would have to wait.

At that moment, Percy stepped out of the surveillance room. His face was unusually grim―Josefina barely recognized him.

She knew instantly that things were bad.

"Josie, let's talk somewhere private," Percy said in a low voice.

She nodded and followed him to a quiet corner.

Percy spoke, his voice tense and worried. "Josie, the wedding gown fabric is toxic. The material was soaked in poison for a whole week. Even though today the effect should've been weakest, just touching the fabric was enough to cause a reaction. The models were exposed simply by wearing the dresses. It's a good thing you didn't handle them yourself who knows what could've happened."

He paused, then added, "Still, even if you had touched them, with your background, you probably would've noticed something was off."

But there was no turning back time. Josefina couldn't go back and destroy those dresses before the show.

"This was all aimed at me—or at least at the people around me," Josefina said with conviction.

Only her closest circle knew about the bridal show. So whoever set this up had to be one of them.

"If we send the gowns for testing now, will they still be able to detect anything?" she pressed.

Percy shook his head.

Josefina felt a cold unease settle in.

“I already sent fabric samples to the lab. I hope it'll help," Percy said softly. He'd done everything he could, as quickly as possible.

Whether it would make any difference, he honestly didn't know.

"Thank you, Percy. I know you've done your best." Josefina managed a faint, tired smile.

...

Somewhere under the night sky, a slender woman threw her head back in laughter.

"I'm finally going to take Josefina down. Watching her tumble from her high horse into the dirt-God, it feels good."

“Nothing's over yet. You're celebrating a bit early, aren't you?” A man's voice cut in, full of sneering disbelief.

The woman's laughter stopped cold.

She snapped, "What would you know? Josefina's running around like a headless chicken right now. There's no way out of this for her refuse to believe she can fixa mess this big!"

The man just fell silent.

The woman smirked, brimming with confidence. "There's no way she can bury this.

Not this time."

He replied quietly, "Nothing's ever certain."

She rolled her eyes. “Shut up. I don't need your negativity."

He didn't answer, but the tension between them was thick.

She shot him a glare. "Just don't screw this up for me. This is the best plan I've ever come up with, bar none."

He gave a short laugh. "I guess we'll see

She watched him leave and scoffed, "Useless man."

...

Oliver finally finished what he needed to do and came to meet Josefina.

She was giving Kale some final instructions—making sure the models would be properly compensated and all their medical bills covered.

When she was done, she looked up, exhaustion written all over her face. But the moment she spotted Oliver, she straightened up forced a smile and walked over to him,
