Chapter 1287

Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess · Dana E.

"Josie, did you watch that video I sent you?"

"Yeah, just finished it."

Josefina's eyes lingered on the footage: an old guy had come looking for Logan, and they'd even gotten into a scuffle. But what really caught her attention was how normal Logan seemed—his face, his reactions, all of it.

Percy messaged, "Logan never mentioned Dr. Berry came to see him. I only found out because the garden's hidden cameras picked it up."

They'd only figured out the guy's name-Dr. Berry-from the surveillance audio.

Josefina replied, "This Dr. Berry has clearly been watching you all for a while. Or maybe he found you through me, started keeping tabs on each of you, and that's how he discovered Logan."

Percy said, "Or maybe the real boss behind the lab already knew about Logan and called Dr. Berry in. It'd explain why he knows so much."

Josefina typed back, "I'm going to find Logan and ask him myself. See what he's thinking."

She couldn't help it-her curiosity was eating her alive. If Logan was getting better, why hadn't he told her? What was he hiding? Logan's mind had always worked on a different level; what was his plan this time?

Percy offered, "I'll go with you. If Logan loses it, I can protect you."

Josefina shook her head. "No need. You've got your own stuff to handle. I'll take Tori and Jett. If Logan tries anything, those two can handle him.”

It made sense-Tori and Jett weren't just strong, they were both armed. Still,

Josefina wouldn't let them use their weapons unless there was no other choice. The last thing she wanted was anyone getting hurt.

Logan was in the garden, watering flowers like he didn't have a care in the world.

He had his back to the path, but when he heard footsteps, he spun around, a huge, boyish grin lighting up his face. "Master!"

For a guy his size, Logan looked impossibly innocent, like a kid on his birthday. "Logan, I brought pizza. Let's go sit and eat," Josefina said, holding up the box.

"Thank you, Master!" Logan

ret

practically bounced after her. Tor and Jett trailed behind with more pizza a couple of sodas anda bag affries.

Josefina shot them a look, and they hung back, close enough to step in if needed, but giving her space.

Logan dug in, blissfully happy. Josefina waited until he'd slowed down before speaking up.

"Logan, you're better now. Why didn't you tell me?" She couldn't keep the question in any longer.

Logan stopped, put down his pizza, and peeled off his gloves. He tried for his usual goofy grin but couldn't quite pull it off.

"Master, I'm not always myself. Sometimes I slip back into old patterns," he admitted, his voice clear and steady.

"So you're feeling more like yourself these days, right?" Josefina asked gently.

"I guess so," Logan said, eyes downcast.

"Well, that's good news. I'm really happy for you." After all, who wanted to spend their life in a fog?

Josefina could tell there were things Logan didn't want to talk about, so she let it go. But then, unexpectedly, he spoke up.

"Master, I was scared that if you knew, you wouldn't come see me anymore."

Josefina gave him a soft, understanding smile. "Logan, why would you think that?"

He looked up, his expression suddenly vulnerable. "You're only nice to me because I'm pathetic. If I'm not anymore will you still care? Will you just leave me here in Green Valley and never come back I don't want to stay here. I want to be with you."

Seeing the hurt in his eyes, Josefina softened her voice. "You're overthinking this, Logan. You're my apprentice-how could I just walk away There's an old saying once a teacher, always like a parental cared for you before, and I'm not going to stop now. You're family to me. Don't worry, okay?"
