Chapter 376
Two people gazed into each other's eyes through the dim glow of their
smartphones.
"Oliver, it's so dark where you are. Where exactly are you?" Josefina inquired, the concern evident in her voice.
"Just lying in bed, sleeping. What about you?"
"I'm also trying to sleep," Josefina replied, her voice masking the dance of secrets between them.
The memory of a conversation with Hayden surged to Josefina's mind as she and Oliver silently looked at each other through the screens.
Breaking the silence, Oliver ventured, "I think I can hear the sound of waves where you are."
Instinctively, Josefina dove under the covers. "You must be mistaken. It's just noise from outside. Why would there be waves here?"
"But Josie, now I can't see you with that cover over your head," Oliver protested mildly.
"When are you coming back?" Josefina deflected.
"In about five days. I'll try to make it sooner. Josie, are you missing me yet?" Under the tranquility of the blankets, Oliver's resonant, magnetic voice seemed to drift closer.
Then, a knock at the door interrupted the moment. "Ms. Rosa, Mr. Hayden requests your presence."
Fearing Oliver might overhear, Josefina quickly said, "Oliver, I've got to go. Something's come up. We'll talk later, okay?" ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ Find~Novel.net
After disconnecting the call, she responded to the knocker, "I'll be right there." Donning a mask to conceal her identity, Josefina made her way to Hayden.
Hayden was waiting for her on the newly cultivated land, with seedlings of Lucifer's Breath by his side. "Rosa, the Hellfire shipment arrived. Can you check if these can be planted?"
Josefina knelt down and inspected a seedling closely. "I'll give it a try."
For three hours, Josefina toiled alone, planting the seedlings, watering, and loosening the soil as the manual instructed.
After the work was done, she reported to Hayden, "Let's check back this time tomorrow. If there are signs of life, we'll have succeeded."
If the seedlings wilted, Rose Bay Island would have to abandon the project to cultivate Lucifer's Breath.
"Rosa, the herbs you needed have been delivered to the lab. Go have a look," Hayden instructed.
"Alright. I've had a few outfits made for you and sent them to your bedroom, along with some tea from Westwood. Try it and let me know if you like it. If you do, I'l send more."
"Rosa, you're always so considerate. You are so good to me than my godson." Josefina smiled warmly, "Of course I should be good to you."
Hayden chuckled, "Grant heard you were back and is already on his way. He should be landing on the island in a couple of hours."
At the mention of Grant, Josefina's spirit lifted. Grant had been like a brother to her since her arrival on Rose Bay Island, once even taking a dangerous blow intended for her. It was after that Hayden had taken Grant as his godson, and from then on, Josefina had taken to wearing her mask in public.
When Grant returned to Rose Bay Island, his face was alight with joy. "Make sure you carry these
into MS Josefina's room carefully. Don't damage anything, or it'll be on your heads." he commanded the staff.
"Yes, sir." they replied.
Grant's complexion was sun-kissed, his hair buzzed short, and his tall, sturdy frame gave an immediate sense of security. He strode purposefully to Hayden.
"Godfather, where's Rosa?" he asked eagerly.
Hayden teased him with a chuckle,
"Grant, you're back and you don't even greet me first, just straight to... asking about Rosa Your bone with her is indeed strong-stronger than with me, it seems."
Grant just smiled and said nothing. Hayden gestured behind him, "There's your Rosa."
Grant turned around swiftly, his face breaking into a broad, eager smile.
