Chapter 423

Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess · Dana E.

Xavier leaned in, his voice dripping with gossip, "Heard from Ruby that Josefina was the Antonio family's mix-up at the nursery."

Marina shot Xavier a frosty look, "You're turning into a real blockhead! Been hanging out with Ruby too much? Her nonsense rubbing off on you?"

Xavier pressed on, unfazed, "Mom, she's Mr. Oliver's girlfriend."

Marina was momentarily speechless.

She hadn't known about Josefina's relationship status, and hearing that she was linked to Mr. Oliver left her completely stunned.

"Which Mr. Oliver are we talking about?"

"The Oliver," Xavier whispered, as if the walls had ears.

Marina was stunned again, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of Oliver.

"If she's Oliver's girl, why isn't he here with her? Maybe he's just playing around. Not really into her, you know? Or maybe they've already split?"

"I'm not sure," Xavier admitted honestly.

Marina was at a loss for words, clearly frustrated with Xavier's cluelessness.

"Alright, let's go make nice with Josefina," she commanded.

Marina marched towards Josefina, with Xavier reluctantly trailing behind.

Josefina noticed them approaching and looked surprised.

"Ms. Josefina, hello there, I'm Marina, Xavier's mother. I heard there was a little mix-

up between you two. Xavier feels terrible about it and wanted to come over to apologize."

Josefina glanced at Xavier and smiled, "Mrs. Landry, there's been no misunderstanding."

"Oh, is that so? Xavier here got the wrong end of the stick, thanks to Ruby's chatter."

"Mrs. Landry, let's put the past behind us. I've certainly not dwelled on it," Josefina continued.

Marina turned to Xavier, "See? Learn from Josie here. Such grace. Make sure you don't repeat the same mistake. Thank goodness you saw Ruby's true colors in time and broke it off."

Josefina gave Xavier an extra curious look. Already split from Ruby? She found it hard to believe.

In her eyes, Xavier was the epitome of a mama's boy!

Marina, always on the frontline, would have her son toe the line whether he liked it or not.

Xavier, trying to make amends, said, "Josefina, about that incident, I was in the wrong. My apologies."

"It's nothing," Josefina replied, holding her champagne glass with poise. "Mrs. Landry, please excuse me, I have other matters to attend to."

With that, Josefina and Alex made their exit. Xavier frowned, "Mom, did you see that? Josefina's so stuck-up. What does she think she has to be so proud of?"

Marina and Xavier had left early and were unaware of Josefina's other identity, Anya.

Billy's family surely wouldn't tell Xavier; the mother and son still thought of Josefina as unremarkable.

Marina, nursing a wine glass, sneered, "That Josefina, really full of herself. It was an honor for her that I approached her. She doesn't know the meaning of gratitude!"

Xavier quickly added, "Mom, maybe it's time to look elsewhere. Sure, Josefina's a looker, but she's not going to help me expand my business."

The Rowland family's main venture was pharmaceuticals, while Josefina's company was in fashion.

Marina nodded, "Right, we'll wait. I'm curious about this new Ms. Josefina of the Harrison family. If they're keeping her hidden, maybe she's not all that?"

"Mom, can you drop the matchmaking? Do you really want to sacrifice my happiness for status?"
