Chapter 452
Josefina sure knows how to put on a show!
No way was Lena going to eat Josefina's leftovers. Even if they were clean and everyone used serving forks, she just couldn't bring herself to do it!
Lena's resolve was rock solid until she heard Dorian's voice. "Lena, eat up, aren't you hungry?"
The once determined Lena now sat down obediently with a forced smile, quietly starting her meal.
"Lena, take your time eating, I'm heading upstairs."
Lena nodded meekly. "Dorian, thanks for everything. Make sure you get some rest."
After sending Dorian off, she looked at the spread with furrowed brows.
"Annika, come here," she called out.
Annika approached. "What's up, Miss Josefina?"
"I feel like having some dumplings instead. I'm not in the mood for this spread."
Annika looked troubled. "Miss Josefina, it's not that I don't want to whip something up for you, but the young master asked me to prepare a midnight snack for Ms. Josefina. Maybe I should check with him again?"
Lena was speechless. Dorian actually asked Annika to cook for Josefina? Why her?!
Lena finished the leftovers with tears in her eyes. She couldn't help it - Annika's cooking was just too good.
Back in her room, a young maid named Fia came in with a tray of pastries and a fruit platter.
"Miss Josefina, please have a little something. You mustn't have had enough to eat tonight. That Dorian, how could he let you eat leftovers? Even with serving forks, it's still leftovers."
The more Fia spoke, the angrier Lena got.
Frowning, she said bitterly, "I didn't expect Dorian to do this. He's usually so affectionate with me, but when it comes to Josefina, he's just smitten. How can a sister he's never even met before win his affection so easily?"
"Ms. Josefina must have sweet-talked the young master behind the scenes. I mean, how else could someone as stoic and commanding as Dorian be so soft on Ms. Josefina?" Fia mused.
Lena pondered, taking a small bite of a pastry, patting her belly, and reluctantly setting it down. Josefina is so slim, she has to be slimmer than her! Time to get serious!
"Fia, you're quite the sharp one. Your analysis is spot-on. I'm curious too - how did Josefina manage to enchant Dorian? I'm furious! I'm Dorian's darling sister. Josefina comes back and steals my affection. I won't stand for it."
Fia soothed Lena with flattery. "Miss Josefina, the young master is just too kind- hearted. He probably feels that since Ms. Josefina is his sister after all, and as the eldest in the family, he has to set an example. But in reality, he still cherishes you the most. He always brings you gifts when he returns and even got you a position as his secretary in his company. Ms. Josefina doesn't get that kind of treatment."
Lena's mood lifted considerably at that.
She handed Fia a gold ring. "Here, Fia, this is for you."
Fia was overjoyed but made a show of refusing. "Miss Josefina, I can't accept this, it's against the rules."
Lena stuffed the ring into her pocket. "It's yours, just take it. It's just a trinket, not worth much."
It was the least valuable piece in her jewelry collection.
Fia treasured it. "Thank you so much, Miss Josefina. You're the true darling of the Harrison family, Josefina can't hold a candle to you."
Lena smiled coyly. "I want you to keep an eye on Annika for me, watch her every move. How's that going? Notice anything fishy?"
