Chapter 487
Josefina stepped out of the building, her gaze immediately locking onto the car parked by the curb. She made her way over with determination.
Oliver pushed the car door open from the inside. Josefina slid into the passenger seat and closed the door behind her.
Oliver took her hand, his eyes full of helplessness. The man who was once the epitome of stern command was now on the verge of becoming as docile as a puppy.
"Josie, am I really such an eyesore? Is what we have so shameful? Why can't I wait for you out in the open?"
Josefina smirked. "Rush hour, Oliver. You standing by the car? You'd be a walking Fourth of July parade. Come on, do you really not see what you look like?"
His towering height, chiseled features, and that air of nobility, especially dressed in a tailored suit. Such a man as Oliver, he'd turn heads without even trying!
Oliver was at a loss for words. Josefina had said it all, and what could he possibly
say to argue? Whatever Josie said was law; Oliver would just roll with it.
"I'll take you to get changed." Oliver, now all smiles, led her by the hand.
...
Josefina slipped into a crisp white dress, touched up her makeup, and casually tied her hair up. Today was Finley's big day, and he was the star of the show. Plus, this was a casual get-together among friends. Best to keep it low-key.
They reached their destination, and Oliver opened the car door for her. Josefina stepped out gracefully.
Standing side by side, Oliver curved his arm, the unspoken invitation clear. Josefina couldn't help but smile at the gesture, placing her hand on his arm as they walked in together.
...
Inside the private room, Shanna sat next to Finley, her head bowed, her emotions unreadable. Finley frowned deeply, lifted her chin, and forced Shanna to meet his gaze.
His voice was ice as he demanded, "Today's my birthday, not my funeral. What's with the long face? Are you wishing me dead?"
Shanna asked calmly, "Finley, I know you saved my life, but saving me doesn't mean you own it. Why didn't you just call the cops and let them find my family?"
Finley's voice lowered. "I found you near Demon's Isle. Do you understand what a woman shot and thrown into the sea near there signifies?"
"What does it signify?" Shanna was clueless.
Finley whispered harshly, "Do you think a 'normal' girl would end up there? I suspect you stole something from Rose Bay Island, got shot, and ended up in the ocean. I saved you, and instead of being grateful, you want me to call the cops? Aren't you afraid for your life?"
Shanna stared at Finley, her eyes wide with fear and vulnerability. She didn't know who she was or where she should go. Yet, she didn't want to stay with Finley anymore.
"It's your birthday, so happy birthday. I'll be leaving now." Shanna dashed out.
Finley caught up, "Do you even know where you are? Can you even find your way out?"
Shanna kept running, her hair veiling her face. "I can make it out; I remember where the gate is. Don't think just because you brought me here, I've forgotten the way!"
As Shanna bolted, she collided with Josefina, who was just walking in. With a voice tinged with tears, Shanna muttered an apology and fled.
Finley, seeing Oliver's furrowed brow, awkwardly said, "Oliver, take Josefina to The 888. I'll catch up in a bit."
After Finley hurried off, Josefina turned to Oliver. "What's with that girl? Was she crying? Is she Finley's girlfriend?"
Oliver shrugged. "I'm not sure about the specifics, but Finley's been off his game lately."
