Chapter 550
Josephine glanced around before lowering herself into the chair opposite Lauren.
"Alright, out with it," Josephine's tone was as icy as the Arctic.
Lauren chuckled, setting down her coffee cup. "I've got to admit, Josephine, I never would have guessed you were a billionaire's daughter."
"There's a lot you don't know. Want me to spell it all out for you? No? Probably for the best you might just faint, and we can't have that, can we?" Josephine's smirk was sharp enough to cut glass.
Lauren's jaw tightened—Josephine always knew how to push her buttons.
"Ms. Lauren, if you've got something to say, make it quick. This is the last time I'm meeting you."
Lauren's voice was as cold as a winter's night. "This is my last time seeing you too!" Josephine raised an eyebrow. "Good. That works for me."
Lauren's eyes bore into Josephine. "You want the truth? Fine. Wire me ten million."
Josephine laughed softly. "You really think I'd give you ten million? What a joke. Without even knowing if you're telling the truth, you expect me to hand over that kind of money? If you're not going to talk, let's not waste each other's time. I've got better things to do."
Lauren grabbed a solid pitcher, her eyes locking onto Josephine's with a sinister grin. "Fine, maybe I'll give you a little teaser..."
In a flash, Lauren's eyes turned fierce, and she flung the pitcher's contents at Josephine.
But Josephine was ready; she pushed against the table legs and swiftly slipped through the gap between the table and chair, avoiding the splash.
Undeterred, Lauren continued her assault, still holding the pitcher and trying to douse Josephine with what was now clearly sulfuric acid.
Josephine chuckled darkly. "Lauren, you've got a death wish."
Lauren spat out, her teeth practically grinding, "Josephine, you little demon. You ruined my life; I'll ruin you. We'll both go down!"
Dodging, Josephine grabbed a vase from the room and hurled it at Lauren.
Lauren tried to dodge, but Josephine didn't stop; she picked up another ornament and threw it at Lauren's leg.
Lauren howled in pain as she fell, the acid from the pitcher splashing onto her other leg, making her scream in agony.
Sweating profusely, Lauren glared at Josephine and yelled, "You can't escape this, Josephine!"
Standing by the door, Josephine pointed to an umbrella at the entrance. There's a tiny camera in that umbrella. It recorded everything that just happened. Lauren, you're the one who can't escape. The cops are already on their way."
No sooner had Josephine finished speaking than the police arrived.
Josephine declared, "Lauren attempted murder. Arrest her."
One officer called for backup while another addressed Josephine, "Ma'am, we need
you to come to the station to give a statement."
Josephine nodded as Lauren was restrained.
Following the officers outside,
Josephine saw the police car parked at the front. Only three patrons were inside the restaurant, looking terrified at the sight of the police.
"Ma'am, please get in the car. We need to take you back to the station for a statement."
Josephine glanced at the police, then at the car.
As she moved to enter, one officer opened the door while another guided her in.
The driver locked the doors as soon as Josephine was inside and sped off.
Josephine, locked in the back, was unable to exit.
Frowning at the driver, she asked, "Are you working for Lena?"
The driver stayed silent. Josephine touched her bracelet, her eyes flashing with anger. "Speak up. Who sent you? Keep quiet, and its the end of the line for you.
The driver smirked maliciously. "The one at the end of the line is you."
