Chapter 658
"Oliver, I heard Sydney's in the hospital?" Josefina had just gotten the news.
Sydney was already laid up in a hospital bed, and Josefina hadn't even made her move. This reeked of Oliver's handiwork.
Who else could it be? Oliver was the only name that came to mind.
Oliver didn't even try to deny it. "Yeah, that was me. Made sure she'd be bedridden for a while, teach her not to stir up trouble."
That evening, Josefina had stepped outside to take a call, making sure Oliver couldn't overhear her conversation.
"How could you do that to Sydney?" she asked him.
"I heard she put a million-dollar bounty on your head and hired the top hitman around. I know this guy; he's ruthless and never leaves a job unfinished. He's all about the money and the thrill," Oliver explained.
Josefina was momentarily speechless.
Great, talking about her right in front of her.
Her brow furrowed before quickly relaxing. "Really? You can't always believe rumors."
"Josie, you don't know this hitman. That world is too dark for you to understand." Little did he know, Josefina was more familiar with that world than he could ever imagine!
She kept quiet, not wanting to prolong the conversation.
Oliver, a man of the straight and narrow, what did he know about the underworld?
"Oliver, let's hang up. I'm tired and want to sleep," Josefina said, cutting the conversation short.
Oliver was puzzled, not understanding what he had said to upset her.
"Josie, are you mad at me?"
"I'm not mad, just tired. I want to sleep," she firmly ended the call.
Holding her phone, Josefina lay back on her cozy bed, diving back into her work emails.
...
After Josefina hung up, Oliver was left bewildered.
What had he said wrong?
He replayed the conversation in his head, but nothing seemed off.
Just as he was about to call her back, an unknown number popped up on his screen.
After a moment's hesitation, Oliver decided to answer.
Immediately, he was met with Rowan's furious voice. "You disgrace! Did you send someone crash into your Aunt Jenny's
the kind of person you what
breaking her feg? If I knew this was
should've disowned you from the start!"
Meeting Rowan's insults with a cold demeanor, Oliver replied, "If I had known what kind of person you were, I'd have never wanted to be part of your family." fo
Tit for tat, that was Oliver's style.
Rowan, fuming with anger at Oliver's aggressive retort, heard him say, "So
what if broke her leg? If you' So
so
capable, get her treated. It's not like she's dying."
Rowan was left speechless.
Oliver pressed on, "Dying would be too easy for her. She deserves to live through the agony."
Rowan's fury rendered him mute, his anger boiling with no outlet.
"Rowan, are we done here? If so, let's hang up."
"You monster! I swear I'll end you!"
Oliver laughed darkly, a chilling smile on his face. "Try and fail. Just watch me grow stronger and make your life a living hell."
After hanging up, Oliver tossed his phone aside and decided to take a shower to cool off.
No matter how many times Rowan called after that, there was no answer.
Oliver didn't bother blocking him. Sometimes, he'd pick up just to have a go at him.
If he wasn't in the mood, he'd let Rowan rant into the void.
And when he'd had enough, maybe then he'd block him.
Rowan, tormented and outmatched, couldn't lay a finger on Oliver.
