Chapter 704
After dinner, Josefina headed back to hang out with Livia again.
Luke and Percy were already there, and they'd brought along some snacks and drinks.
Luke poked a straw into a bubble tea and handed it to Livia. "Here, Liv, have some bubble tea."
"Thanks, Luke. You're always so thoughtful. Seriously, you're the best."
As Livia spoke, no one noticed the flicker of sadness in Luke's eyes.
Josefina walked in, picking up on Luke's dampened mood. "Hey, Luke, find anything new?"
"Not yet, boss. Sorry."
"No worries. Sydney's been married to Rowan for so long and kept things under wraps. It's not surprising it's tough to find anything."
Luke smiled and handed Josefina a bubble tea, but didn't pop the straw in for her.
Josefina took it, and Livia suggested, "How about we play some poker? It's been ages, and I'm itching for a game."
Luke was the first to agree. "Sure, I'm in. Haven't played poker in a long time. You guys up for it?"
Percy looked at Josefina. "Josie, you free today?"
"Nothing much on my plate today. Sure, I'm in. Been a while since I played poker too."
The four of them slipped back into their old, comfortable dynamic, enjoying a game of poker together.
...
Oliver waited at the entrance of the neighborhood for a bit before Josefina messaged him, telling him not to wait and to head back first.
With a smirk, Oliver drove off.
Back at the company, George was waiting for him.
"Mr. Oliver, there's been a situation abroad. We need you to head there as soon as possible."
Oliver, sitting in his office chair, looked up at George, his gaze cold and dangerous. "Why is there a problem? Didn't I ask you to keep an eye on things?"
George couldn't find an excuse. "Mr. Oliver, my apologies. It seems there was a mole on the inside, which led to the slip-up."
"Leave. Have Lee, my secretary, accompany me on the trip. You stay back and handle things here."
"Yes, Mr. Qliver. Lee has everything prepared and is ready to go with you The flight is in an hour. Your things are all set, waiting
6th Lee."
Oliver hummed in acknowledgment, and George left the room.
Oliver opened the office safe, took out some items, and started to leave.
He video-called Josefina. “Josie, I have to leave. Westwood for a few days. Tomorrow, don't bother going to Sydney's place, no treatment her leg not even a glance. I'm leaving Harry here to protect you. Stay away from Dominic and his family."
Josefina, in the middle of their poker game, was taken aback. “You're leaving now? Is it urgent?"
“A bit, but I'll wrap it up as fast as I can to be back with you," Oliver's voice was filled with longing.
"Then, take care," Josefina said.
"Will do, Josie. Remember to miss me. I'll be missing you every day."
After hanging up, Josefina found herself a bit embarrassed as her three friends had been listening in.
Livia teased with a laugh, "Josie, who would've thought you'd be the first among us to get off the singles market. How sweet is that!"
"Livia, stop it. It's your turn," Josefina deflected, her cards in hand but her mind elsewhere.
...
The next morning.
It was the day Josefina was
supposed to visit Sydney's homet
but before she could leave, Dominic somehow having
Cotten hold of her
number, called her.
“Josefina, what time will you be coming over? Should I send someone to pick you
up?"
Leaning on the couch, Josefina pondered over Oliver's words.
Should she make the trip at all?
