Chapter 801
In front of others, Grandpa Robert always kept Josefina's medical skills under
wraps.
"Patrick, my granddaughter Josie's studying medicine. But she's still in college, so I can't promise she'll cure you," Grandpa Robert said, trying to keep Hunter's hopes in check. It's important not to get too hopeful, as it can lead to big letdowns.
Hunter wasn't expecting much anyway. He had already seen countless doctors, and none had been able to help him.
The garden was quiet, just the four of them there. They all settled down, and Josefina said, "Hunter, let me check your pulse and see what's going on."
Hunter reached out his hand, and Josefina began to feel for his pulse. Grandpa Robert and Emily sat nearby, staying silent to avoid distracting her.
After a bit, Josefina lifted her hand from Hunter's wrist. "Can you fix me up, young lady?" Hunter asked, not holding out much hope. It was tough to believe that Josefina, a young college student, could succeed where so many experienced doctors had failed. Yet, his tone was gentle, showing respect for Josefina's efforts.
Without answering right away, Josefina took a closer look at Hunter's legs and back. After her assessment, she confidently declared, "Hunter, I can treat your condition." "Really? Can I actually get back on my feet?" Hunter asked, his disbelief evident.
Grandpa Robert, unable to hide his excitement, added, "Josie's got real talent in medicine. Her grandma came back to her senses because of her. Patrick, if Josie says she can help you, then I'm sure she can."
Emily chimed in, "I trust my granddaughter's skills completely."
Even though Hunter was doubtful about Josefina's capabilities, he had unwavering faith in Grandpa Robert and Emily. They had been friends for years and Hunter knew Grandpa Robert wasn't one to exaggerate. Their confidence slowly turned Hunter's disbelief into shock, and then into excitement. "Thank you, young lady. You've given me hope I never thought I'd have again."
"Hunter, the issue lies in your back. I'll visit you daily for acupuncture and prescribe
some herbal remedies. You'll start feeling better gradually," Josefina explained.
Hunter picked up on something unexpected, "My back is the problem?"
Josefina nodded, "Yes, there's
damage to your back. I've checked.
There's something else I need to know, Hunter. How many people live with you at home? What are the Occupations? Before you were unable to stand, did anyone give you any gifts? What were they? Please tell me everything you can
remember; it's crucial for your treatment."
Hunter felt a bit lost, sensing that the situation was more intricate than he realized. "Josie, are you suggesting someone set me up? That I've been poisoned?"
Grandpa Robert and Emily were just as shocked. How could this be possible? Sometimes, having a big family or business wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
"What's the use of all that money if you can't enjoy life?" Hunter thought grimly.
"It's not poison; it's a hex. The reason you can't stand is that there's a hexworm pressing on your back," Josefina revealed.
Hunter was stunned. He'd heard of hexworms in stories but never imagined they were real. And to think, he had one inside him?
"Josie, I'll do my best to recall
everything. Who I met, who gave me gifts before I was paralyzed. I'll think it over carefully," Hunter promised eager to provide Josefina with anything that might help, even if it meant revisiting painful memories.
