Josefina strolled back into the pharmaceutical company, where she ran into someone she knew well. Shay was in the middle of a conversation with the R&D manager.

"Is there really hope for my leg?" Shay asked, her voice tinged with excitement. The R&D manager smiled, "There is..."

Before he could finish, Jarred spotted Josefina and his face lit up with recognition. He was about to say hi, but remembered that he had to keep Josefina's presence

under wraps.

Jarred shifted gears, "Here's the deal, leave me your number. I'll make sure someone gets in touch to arrange for a doctor to swing by your place."

Shay was taken aback. Weren't they just having a promising chat? What changed all of a sudden?

"Mr. Jarred, can't I see a doctor today? I've heard your doctors are the best. Why not let someone check me out now?"

Jarred glanced at Josefina, who subtly shook her head. Catching on, Jarred told Shay, "I'm sorry, but all the doctors are swamped today. Some are out on calls, others are knee-deep in lab work."

Shay was confused. Did she mishear? She could've sworn Jarred said it was possible a moment ago.

Growing impatient, Shay pressed, "Mr. Jarred, is there really no way?"

"No, I'm afraid not. If there was a doctor available, I'd have told you. Since I didn't, there simply isn't one. It's best if you head home, and I'll make sure to contact you once we can set something up."

With no options left, Shay sighed in frustration. As her aide wheeled her around, her eyes met Josefina's.

Shay's stare was icy. Josefina sat with poise, her fiery red dress reaching her knees, her curls adding to her charm. When she stood, her striking figure was undeniable, sparking envy in Shay. The fact that Josefina was standing and Shay was seated felt like an added insult, fueling Shay's anger.

Josefina eyed Shay's leg. "Still not better, huh?"

Feigning surprise, Josefina replied, "Oh, so you believe in karma too? Then why keep causing trouble? Why not try doing something good for a change?" Shay was left speechless.

Josefina continued, "With all the trouble you've caused, how do you even sleep at night?"

Shay stayed silent, worried about making a bad impression on Jarred.

"What are you doing here?" Shay asked through clenched teeth.

"Just picking up some special meds, perfect for those with a venomous heart. Interested? I just got some happy to share a dose with you." Josefina offered with a sly grin.

Shay was left speechless, stunned by Josefina's audacity.
