When Xavier got caught, Shay started to freak out a bit. In the dead of night, she shook Sydney awake. Seeing Rowan still fast asleep, Sydney rolled her eyes and got up, leaving the room with a sigh.

Sydney found Shay in her room, looking completely terrified, which only deepened her frown. "Seriously, Shay? You're losing your cool over something so minor? What's up with you lately?"

"Mom, are you not worried? Xavier's been taken by Oliver's crew. Who knows what they'll get out of him? Xavier's such a pushover, there's no way he can hold out under pressure."

"Shay, are you doubting my abilities now?"

Shay quickly shut her mouth, not daring to say another word.

Sydney went on, "Xavier wouldn't dare sell us out. He hates Josefina too much to give up a chance to get back at her."

Realization dawned on Shay. "Mom, you always have it all figured out."

"Shay, ever since that run-in with Josefina, you've been second-guessing yourself. Enough already; get some sleep."

Shay nodded sheepishly and settled back into bed.

After a brief four-hour nap, Josefina was up and heading straight to the hospital. Percy met her there, saying, "Annika still hasn't shown any signs of waking up. Let's give it a bit more time."

Josefina sat down as Percy placed the breakfast he'd bought in front of her. "You need to eat something. If you collapse, who's going to be there for Annika?"

She managed to sip on some soy milk but couldn't really stomach anything else. "You've got classes today. Head on out; I'll stay with Annika and keep you posted if anything changes."

Josefina nodded and made her way to school.

Once she arrived, Mandy approached her cautiously. "Josie, I'm really sorry. If it weren't for my birthday party, Annika wouldn't be in this situation."

Mandy held out several breakfast items, hoping to give them to Josefina.

"Mandy, it's not your fault. Those people were targeting me and would've found another way. Don't beat yourself up."

Despite Josefina's reassurance, Mandy couldn't shake the guilt. "Josie, I brought you some breakfast. I'll see you in class."

Mandy quickly scampered off, afraid Josefina might turn down her

Shay added with a small smile, "Joelle's got a point. Annika wouldn't want you moping around like this."

Josefina, fueled by anger, landed a punch right on Shay's face. Joelle stood there, stunned, as Josefina unleashed her fury, knocking them both to the ground with her powerful Stakes.

Shay and Joelle's faces quickly swelled from the impact. Shay even

lost a tooth and started lisping, while Joette, touching her face and wincing gasped in pain

"Josefina, how dare you hit us! Are you out of your mind?"

"You were asking for it, running your mouths like that. You came looking for trouble, and I gave it to you!"

"Josefina, I'm going to sue you!" Shay almost cried from the pain.

"Go ahead! If you don't, you're a coward!"

Just then, Josefina's phone buzzed. Seeing Percy's name on the screen, anxiety

washed over her as she picked up the call and hurried away.
