Chapter 965
As Josefina and Calix were heading out, they ran into Oliver. Oliver, having caught wind that Josefina was nearby, had wrapped up his work in record time and hurried
over.
"What are you doing here? My sister's coming home with me," Calix said, his voice laced with protective urgency.
Oliver stepped closer to Josefina. “I'm here to take Josie out for dinner.”
Calix had initially planned for Josie to have dinner at home, but a quick glance at his watch told him it was getting late. Feeling guilty yet not wanting his sister to go hungry, he relented. "Alright, sis, go have dinner with Oliver, but don't forget to come home early, okay?"
"Sure thing, Calix. You should head home early too," Josefina nodded, already thinking about the tasks she still had to tackle.
With a quick goodbye, Josefina parted ways with Calix and left with Oliver. Calix watched them leave, worry etched on his face, before turning back to handle his own responsibilities.
Oliver took Josefina to a cozy little spot known for its hot pot, perfect for a chilly winter evening. But as soon as she reached the entrance, Josefina felt a wave of discomfort and stepped back.
"Josie, are you okay? Do you need to go to the hospital?" Oliver asked, his voice full of concern.
Josefina waved him off. “I had an iced coffee earlier, and now my stomach's acting up," she admitted, with a slight grimace.
Oliver gently rubbed her back. "It's freezing out, Josie. You shouldn't be drinking iced coffee. How can you enjoy a nice meal if your stomach's upset?"
"I'm fine, really," she insisted.
"Let's skip the hot pot, Josie. We'll get some soup instead. You shouldn't have anything spicy if your stomach's upset," Oliver said, ignoring any protests she might have.
...
Back home, Calix filled the family in on the day's events. He was worried they might unknowingly put Josefina in another uncomfortable situation like today's.
After he finished, a heavy silence filled the room, with grim expressions on every face.
Dorian's sharp gaze locked onto Calix. "Is this how you take care of your sister?”
Reid chimed in, frustration in his
voice,
into farter, it's one thing if you get
into trouble, but how could you let your sister get hurt? Do you even · deserve to be called her brother?"
Calix scratched his head, taking the scolding without argument. He knew he'd messed up.
"I didn't expect Daniela and Jennie to do something like this. They always seemed so considerate and kind.
Who wouldve thought they tact this way?" he tried to explain.
Hattie looked unimpressed. "So, are you trying to dodge responsibility here?"
Garrett added, "You mess up and now you're trying to pass the buck?"
Calix sighed, "I know, I know. I was wrong. I'll think about this deeply and make sure it never happens again."
Garrett pressed on, "Why did they target Josie? Carter, did you figure that out?"
Calix answered awkwardly, "Yeah, Daniela has feelings for me. She thought I was too good to Josie and wanted to teach her a lesson."
Hattie's eyes flashed with anger. "Is Daniela out of her mind? What's rattling around in that empty head of hers to pull a stunt like that? Absolutely despicable."
Hattie was so furious she was determined to teach those who dared harm her precious Josie a lesson. With just a glance, Dorian understood exactly what she intended.
Garrett wasn't pleased either.
"Josie's been through enough, she's
even got hurt, and Calix, you just let
her leave with Oliver? Why didn't you
bring her back so we could make Sure she's alright?
Calix was at a loss for words.
"Mom, Dad, Oliver texted me. He said Josie's arm is okay."
Garrett wasn't satisfied. "And you think that excuses you, Carter? Is that your way of
being a responsible brother, just leaving her with Oliver?"
Once again, Calix found himself at the center of a family inquisition, feeling utterly miserable.
