Chapter 1563
---- Hakon pounded his left chest hard with a closed fist. The sign of respect from one warrior to another, of trust and recognition of strength and brotherhood. Magnus stood, taking his mate's hand and helping her up. In front of his in-laws, he struck his left chest hard as well. "I, Magnus Thorne, lycan prince of Nocturne, swear on my life, with the Goddess as my witness, to protect and love your daughter Hannah until the end of my days." His magnetic, steady voice resonated inside the cabin.
Fenrir watched his brother's display of confidence and how he held his female already safe under his dominion. He wasn't as confident as Magnus; for the first time he envied his brother's poise. He looked at his mate, at Abigail... but she wasn't looking at him. Her expression was hard to read as she watched her sister pair off in front of their parents. It was obvious that, for them, getting Hakon and Anastasia's approval mattered a lot. Hannah and Magnus passed the trial by fire; now it was the other ---- couple's turn.
"Well then, what about you, lycan boy?" Hakon tipped his chin at Fenrir. The powerful male stood, but his aura fluctuated along with his insecurities. "Alpha Hakon, Beta Centuria, I am your daughter Abigail's mate," Fenrir said, looking at Abigail. A stab of pain crossed his chest because she still wouldn't look at him. Besides, her she-wolf wasn't letting Gale through either. "I must say I thought you had a point in your favor for not marking her without our blessing, but right now... 'm not so sure Hakon wasn't an idiot and Anastasia even less.
You could see the little hearts floating between Hannah and Magnus; however, the tension between Abigail and Fenrir was palpable. On top of that, Hannah went back to her sister's side and took her hand, whispering something in her ear. Anastasia frowned; she knew her pups far too well. ---- "Well, it's been a short time; we thought about waiting longer..." "Abigail, daughter, what do you think of the union with your mate?" Anastasia cut Fenrir off without much ceremony. Her being less of a beast than her man wasn't the same as liking frills.
Abigail lifted her head; her gray eyes showed a sea of storms. Suddenly, she stood, sighing, fists tight at her dress's sides. "Abigail, please, we can talk about whatever you want, the two of us; at least give me a chance," Fenrir said anxiously. He feared the worst: that she'd want to reject him outright. Those beautiful pupils stared at him and then went back to her parents. Anastasia with a worried look and Hakon with the savage killer right around the corner. "Speak without fear, Abigail! Did this male offend you in any way? Did he hurt you? Thɪs chapter is updated by find⁂novel.net
Don't tell me he forced you?!" "I'd never do something like that to a female, much less to my mate!" Fenrir roared, baring his canines and earning a warning ---- growl from Hakon's wolf "Let's all calm down." Magnus held his brother's shoulder so he'd take a step back. Anastasia kept her man in check. "Daughter, what's going on?" she asked again, but this time almost like an order. "I need to think about it," Abigail finally answered, her eyes filling with moisture.
"I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I want him as my mate; I need time..." She dropped the bomb and grabbed her dress to run out of the room. "Abigail!" Fenrir shouted, hurt deep in his soul. This was almost a rejection of their bond, and right in front of everyone. He moved to chase her, but Hakon blocked his way. "Don't you even think of cornering her or I'll tear you apart! Don't give me a reason, boy, because I swear I'm about to lose it!" He roared so loudly the house shook to its core. Fenrir didn't force his way forward, even though his wolf howled ---- in desperation to chase his female.
Hannah and her mother went after Abigail. Magnus was yelling in his mind that he needed to be smart and not so impulsive. But how do you stay calm when the love of your life is slipping through your hands, and you can't do anything to justify yourself? It was all his fault. This was damn karma for the times he denied her, for insisting he preferred freedom and adventures over commitment. «I don't want to be free anymore, Abigail. I want to lock myself in the same cage with you and throw the key far away. Forgive me, my love.»
