Chapter 195
George was flawless, whether in looks or status. Living in such close proximity, it wouldn't be strange at all for Marguerite to develop feelings for him.
The question hit the lounging girl like a physical blow. She shot up from the bed.
Thump!
Her head collided with Lindsay's, nearly sending her friend flying.
"Ow! Maggie!" Lindsay cried, rubbing her forehead. "I know I uncovered your secret, but you don't have to kill me to silence me!"
Marguerite rubbed her own throbbing head with a hiss. "No! It's not like that! Don't be ridiculous."
Lindsay, a red mark already forming on her forehead, stroked her chin like a detective. "Then why did you call him your husband? Weren't you testing his reaction?"
Testing him?
The thought had never crossed Marguerite's mind. A horrifying possibility began to form. Did George think that, too? Did he think she was testing him, which was why he'd looked so serious and said he was startled?
She took a deep breath, wanting to slap herself. "No!"
"Then what was it?" Lindsay pressed.
Marguerite gave her a deadpan look. "I think I was set up by a powerful conspiracy."
Lindsay frowned. "What? George set you up?"
Marguerite: ".."
She forced a smile. “You should really spend more time online. It was a slip of the tongue. You were just talking about how he's husband material, and my brain short- circuited."
How could someone as sharp as Marguerite make a slip-up like that? Lindsay pouted. "No, you definitely have some feelings for him. But let me tell you, George is a tough nut to crack. As soon as he found out
Wendy liked him, he started avoiding her like the plague. He would never even be in the same room with her."
"One time, Wendy snuck into a gala he was attending and insisted on sitting next to him. He told her to get lost, right then and there. That was the final straw for Wendy. She declared on the spot that she was going to become a nun."
Marguerite blinked. "Did she?"
“Nope,” Lindsay said. “We're friendly. I arranged for three male models to give her some... therapeutic treatment that night. She changed her mind."
Marguerite: "..."
She shook her head. "Anyway, I'm not interested in George."
In her entire life, she had never truly been in love with anyone. But she knew that when she did fall, it would be with unwavering conviction..
avera
her, love was precious, not something to be declared lightly.
Besides, she had only used to
get to know George. To claim she had feelings for him so soon would be disrespectful to him and to herself. After the disaster that came from casually accepting Joshua's confession, she was being extra cautious with matters of the heart.
Since Marguerite was denying it, Lindsay didn't push. Her best friend was still mentally eighteen; it was normal for her to be a little slow on the uptake. She would figure it out eventually.
"By the way, do you know that Joshua, the guy who used to chase you, is a huge movie star now?"
Marguerite lay back down, still rubbing her forehead. "I know. And I dislike him even more now."
Lindsay didn't know about Joshua's confession, as they had been fighting at the time and she had been abroad. Marguerite was suddenly grateful for that. One less
person who knew about her embarrassing past.
“I heard you accepted his confession back then,” Lindsay said with a wink. Marguerite: "...”
I'm so tired. Just let the world end.
