Chapter 79

Joshua returned to his Northpine villa that afternoon. He had lost count of how many friend requests he had sent to Marguerite.

The first was noted with: Joshua.

The second: Marguerite, it's Joshua.

The third: Accept my request, Marguerite. I miss you.

He continued sending them, but they all vanished without a trace. Joshua began to wonder if George had confiscated Marguerite's phone. There was nothing that psycho wouldn't do.

That evening, Hannah also returned from Oakfield and came straight to his villa.

"Joshua, what was so urgent that you had to leave this morning?" Hannah asked, a hint of annoyance in her voice.

Sitting on the sofa, Joshua frowned. "It was something with my brother. I had to come back." It was better not to tell Hannah too much yet. It would only lead to another fight.

He already knew why Marguerite wasn't accepting his requests. She must have seen the rumors about his various flings and was angry. It was perfectly normal. She had been declared dead; was he supposed to remain single for the rest of his life for her? No one could do that. He doubted even that psycho George would. George just hadn't dated anyone yet. People were getting married later these days; life was long. If Marguerite hadn't returned, he would have eventually married and had children.

But the fact that Marguerite was angry about it was a good sign. It meant she still liked him. You only get jealous when you care.

Since WhatsApp wasn't working, he needed another way to contact her. He had known long ago that Theobald was Marguerite's brother. Back high school, her three to younger brothers often came to prox her up. All three of them had been openly hostile toward him.

To be honest, his own mother hadn't approved of him liking Marguerite back then. With three younger brothers and Mr. and Mrs. Scott

gone, the family company waser

surely on the verge of collapse. Being with Marguerite meant taking. on the burden of her three young brothers, they were dead weight. But he had ignored his mother's objections and pursued her anyway. They were just brothers. Once he won Marguerite over, he was sure he could convince her to cut them off.

Who could have predicted that two of those brothers would become successful.in their own right? He wasn't sure what had happened to the youngest one. Of course, this outcome was for the best

Marguerite wouldn't have to support her family.

"Are you still in touch with Theobald?" Joshua asked Hannah.

Hannah, lounging on the sofa, felt her heart skip a beat. “No.” Joshua was clearly concerned, afraid she was still involved with Theobald.

She leaned against him, her voice soft. “I told you, I don't like him. He insisted on investing in my movie, and my agent accepted. I couldn't do anything about it."

"He used to message me a lot, but I never replied. My heart has only ever belonged to you, Joshua."

Joshua stroked her hand. "Do you have his number?"

Hannah's eyes flickered. Was he going to call Theobald and warn him to stay away from her? She bit her lip. “You probably shouldn't contact him. He's a powerful CEO. We can't afford to provoke him.”
