Chapter 1009

These developer tools are the ultimate holy grail for computer science students. And they are absurdly expensive. A lifetime license for just one program costs tens of thousands. With all the software combined, every student just received a gift worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The entire class is losing their minds. They've completely stopped referring to Shanley as "Mr. Schwartz" and have happily upgraded him to "The man of Goddess Juniper."

"Goddess, please thank your man for us!"

"Exactly! Goddess, your lunches are on us from now on!"

"Whatever you want to eat, whatever you need to buy, just give the word."

"From this day forward, the entire freshman CS class is at your command."

They are ready to worship her like royalty.

Juniper presses her lips together, letting out an exasperated laugh. Now she knows exactly why Shanley pulled this stunt. He's buying her an army of loyal minions.

"Class is starting," Tucker calls out as he walks in.

The students immediately scramble back to their seats, paying close attention.

Halfway through the lecture, Tucker pauses, scratching his head. "This particular string of code is a bit tricky to resolve. To save time, I'm going to need a student to assist."

The moment he says it, every head in the room turns to look at Juniper.

Juniper frowns slightly, but casually walks up to the podium. "How do you want me to assist?"

"Oh, I wouldn't dare make you do the grunt work," Tucker quickly stands up, gesturing for Juniper to sit in his chaic He then grabs a small stool and sits obediently beside her.

Juniper gives him a deadpan look. Last semester, the old man had worked her to

the bone. If he keeps this up, she's going to demand half his salary!

...

After class, the academic counselor walks in. She announces that the city's intercollegiate sports event is happening next week. It was supposed to take place last semester but got delayed. Every department is required to send representatives.

The CS department already has a few students signed up, but one of the competitors recently broke their leg and had to drop out. The

counselor is here looking for an emergency replacement, If no one steps up for the two events the injured student signed up for, the department will look terrible.

"Track and tennis?" The students mutter among themselves, feeling helpless. "Professor, I can't even run a hundred meters without panting like a dog."

"Yeah, all the athletic people already volunteered." It isn't that they don't have department pride; it's just that they are all hopelessly unathletic nerds.

"Plus," someone chimes in, "the medical school is sending Sheryl Yardley for tennis. She's won tons of national and international awards. Her coach is the legendary Michelle."

Going against her would be public humiliation.

"Who?" Juniper, who had been dozing off, suddenly snaps awake.

"Sheryl Yardley," a guy answers cautiously.

"Me!" Juniper shoots her hand into the air, her eyes burning with sheer

determination. "I'll do it!"

The entire class turns to stare at her, whispering among themselves. Ooh, is their Goddess feeling competitive?
