Chapter 1068
"Catch a cheater?" Flint's eyes widened instantly, his brain working in overdrive as he asked carefully, "Ms. Payne, did our boss cheat on you?"
That shouldn't be possible. He and Felton followed the boss everywhere, never leaving his side. His routine was literally just going between work and home. Aside from Ms. Payne and his family, not even a female mosquito got close to the boss.
"Ms. Payne, our boss is absolutely loyal to you," Flint immediately supplied his own conclusion before Juniper could even speak, rushing to defend him. "He's kept himself pure for thirty years and has never touched a woman. I can personally testify to that."
Hearing this, Juniper's hand gave a slight tremble, and she nearly choked on a piece of fruit.
Does he have a death wish? Testifying to something like that will only get you killed.
"Flint!"
At that exact moment, an overwhelmingly icy voice, suppressed with rage, came from behind.
Flint spun around to see Shanley standing at the top of the stairs in a bathrobe.
He stood tall and commanding, his posture lazy yet imposing, arms crossed over his chest, his deep eyes staring darkly down at him. With the cool light falling on him, he exuded a bone-chilling aura of hostility from the inside out.
"B-Boss!" Flint stammered, feeling his scalp tingle under that stare, swallowing hard.
"Your mouth has certainly gotten quite agile lately," Shanley said without moving, a curve playing on his lips, smiling in a way that made Flint's neck stiffen.
*Boss, please stop smiling. I'm terrified.*
"Boss, listen to my explanation." Flint waved his hands frantically, his tongue tying itself in knots. "I just..."
"Business is getting tight over in Africa lately. You should go take a look." Shanley walked down the stairs, sat down next to Juniper, grabbed a tissue to wipe the juice off her fingers, and spoke in an eerily calm tone.
"Boss—" Flint's legs turned to jelly, and he nearly collapsed onto the floor.
No. He didn't want to go to that place.
"Ms. Payne..." Knowing the boss
never went back on his word, Flint immediately turned a miserable, pleading gaze toward Juniper. "Į know was wrong. I promise never spout nonsense again Please save me."
"Ah." Juniper tilted her head, her gaze resting on Shanley's livid face, her red lips parting slightly. "Well, it's not like he said anything wrong."
Shanley managed to bend the fruit fork in his hand purely by force, his handsome face darker than the bottom of a scorched pot.
Flint gasped, winking frantically at her. *My dear goddess. Are you sure you're pleading for me? Why does it feel like you're adding fuel to the fire?!*
"He..." Juniper licked her lips, her long lashes fluttering as she tried to figure out what to say.
Before she could speak, she unexpectedly met the man's bottomless dark eyes. She swallowed the words right back down.
Uh. What Flint said was true, but it definitely wounded Shanley's pride.
After all, what normal man approaching thirty hadn't had a proper love life?
When she thought about it, she was slightly responsible for that. This was a tough favor to ask.
"Flint, it seems you don't want a
short-term assignment; you want a
permanent post Shanley shifted his
posture, the frost in his eyeso
deepening. "In that case..."
"No, no." Flint's brain buzzed. He gave a deep bow and said
respectfully, "Boss, I'll go pack my bags right now. I promise to be at
the airport in an
our No hälla
hour."
Without giving Shanley time to react, Flint bolted out the door like a charging bull.
"Oh my." Dana, who had just returned from grocery shopping, was nearly knocked
over. Clutching her chest, she asked, "What's wrong with Flint?"
"Heading to Africa to build infrastructure," Flint's fading voice echoed from the elevator.
"Ah?" Dana stood holding her grocery basket, murmuring slowly, "Flint sure is full of charity, huh."
