Chapter 1092
Shanley draped a wool trench coat over her shoulders. After a long moment of silence, his voice dropped low. "Give me a disguise, too. I'll go with you."
"Not necessary."
Juniper tied the belt of her coat and stepped closer to him, casually playing with the buttons of his shirt. "Mr. Schwartz, I'm not even scared of you. Why would I be afraid of some old man?"
"Aren't you a tough one?"
Shanley pressed his lips together, his thumb lightly brushing her jawline. "Fine. You'll be right downstairs anyway. Call me the second anything feels off."
"Yeah." Juniper looked up at him, her lips curving. "Once I sort out all this mess and find my parents, I'm fully checking out of the hustle. I'm going to embrace the lazy life."
"And abandon Subterra Vanguard?" Shanley asked, guiding her toward the door.
"Isn't that what I have you for?" Juniper slowed her pace, smiling breezily. "Didn't you say you were going to work for me?"
"Yeah." Shanley froze for a second before a teasing smirk spread across his face. "I'll work for you for the rest of my life."
Leaving the Cloudscape Community, Juniper took a few detours before arriving at a crowded downtown area. She hailed a cab.
Half an hour later, the taxi pulled up outside the cafe right next to the Schwartz Group headquarters.
It was ten minutes to the hour.
She found a quiet corner table, sat down comfortably, and grabbed the iPad to order.
A milkshake, some juice, and a few pastries. She ordered a feast.
Setting the iPad aside, she pulled out her phone and sent a photo to Luella.
Note attached: *Where are the Sanctum Holdings guys?*
Luella took a screenshot of the chat and forwarded it to Sanctum Holdings' contact.
Specter: *Time's up. If I don't see anyone, I'm walking.*
Message sent.
Juniper tossed her phone onto the table, picked up a piece of silverware, and took a leisurely bite of her cake.
Ugh. Disgusting.
No wonder Shanley never brought her treats from this place.
Luella sent another screenshot to Sanctum Holdings: *What's the meaning of this? Are you standing our boss up?*
Meanwhile, in a black sedan parked not too far away.
Corvus Thorne, wearing a half-mask to conceal his face, narrowed his dark eyes as he scrutinized the woman in the cafe. The scar
beneath his eye pulted taut as he frowned.
"The boss of Subterra Vanguard is a woman?" his subordinate asked cautiously. "Could this be a trap?"
"Doubtful."
Corvus's eyes narrowed further, a cold glint flashing in them. "We have leverage on Subterra Vanguard. She wouldn't dare pull anything."
Subterra Vanguard had just blown up the Sigma Network's most critical medical-research institute. Word on the street was that the Sigma Network was hunting down Specter vowing to tear her to pieces and feed her to the wolves.
Yet here she was, bold enough to set a meeting right under Shanley's nose. Why should Corvus be afraid?
"Understood."
Following his order, the subordinate stepped out and opened the car door. Corvus exited the vehicle, walked straight into the cafe, and stopped in front of Juniper.
Juniper glanced up, her eyes doing a slow sweep over him.
The scar near his eye. Confirmed it was the head of Sanctum Holdings.
A few seconds later, she calmly withdrew her gaze and went right back to her cake.
Corvus took off his sunglasses, his eyes sharply assessing the girl in front of him.
She looked to be in her early
twenties an age usually defined by innocence. Yet, she radiated an icy,
untouchable danger, She was
arrogant, confident, and completely unfazed.
She was definitely not an ordinary person.
"Hello," Corvus initiated the greeting.
"Have a seat." Juniper slid the iPad over to him with a faint smile. "Order whatever you want. It's my treat."
"Your treat?"
It was the first time Corvus had ever encountered a girl this arrogant yet entirely composed.
