"Hahaha, we were just kidding!"

Hannah, pastries still in hand, practically skipped over to Juniper. In her rush, she shoved past Shanley so hard he tilted heavily to the left.

"Yes, of course, just joking!" Miranda quickly followed, her face beaming. But as she walked past, she shoved Shanley in the opposite direction with an unmistakable look of disdain.

Shanley swayed like a weighted punching bag-first left, then right.

He sat rigidly on the sofa, watching the three generations of women act like best friends, his expression incredibly sour. Clearly, he was the spare part in this family. "Hannah, Miranda..." After exchanging warm greetings, Juniper's expression turned serious. "There's something I need to tell you, and I hope you can understand."

"What is it, sweetheart? You look so serious!" Hannah's smile vanished. She exchanged a worried glance with Miranda before focusing entirely on the girl. "Don't be afraid. Just tell us. Whatever it is, we've got your back."

"Absolutely," Miranda nodded firmly.

"I... might have to kill Shanley," Juniper said softly but with utter seriousness.

"What?"

The pastries slipped right through Hannah's fingers, her aged face dropping in absolute shock.

Kill Shanley? She said they'd have her back, but this was a bit much!

"Well, this..."

Hearing the declaration, the cup in Miranda's hand violently shook.

"Juniper." Miranda stood up abruptly, shooting her son a lethal glare. "Did he do something to you? Did he bully you?"

"No." Shanley shook his head.

"If you didn't, why would she want you dead?" Miranda scoffed. "Get over here right now and apologize to her."

As much as she absolutely adored her future daughter-in-law, Shanley was still her biological son. Outright murdering him felt a little extreme.

"Juniper, you can teach him a lesson. Hit him as hard as you want." Miranda handed her cup to Juniper, her face dead serious. "Just... leave him with one breath, okay?"

Juniper and Shanley exchanged a long, entirely speechless look.

"Miranda, it's not a real murder," Juniper patiently explained. "I found my parents." "You found them?!"

Hannah and Miranda jumped out of their seats, staring at her in sheer joy and astonishment.

Shanley had mentioned before that once Juniper turned twenty and found her parents, they would get married. It sounded like wedding bells were finally on the horizon.

But wait. If that was the case, why did she need to kill him?

"Yes, it's true." Juniper ushered the two women back into their seats and carefully laid out the entire situation from start to finish.

"So, I need Shanley to fake his death so I can gain their trust. It's the only way I can get inside and pull my parents and sister out."

"Oh, I see!" Hannah gasped, proceeding to curse Corvus Thorne

and all his ancestors. "How can

someone be so wicked? Shanlemet

you do whatever she tells you

she wants you to die a certain way, you die exactly that way!"

"Understood," Shanley said, amused.

Miranda squeezed onto the sofa next to Juniper, holding her hands lovingly.

"Sweetheart, if there's anything we can do to help, you just name it."

"This plan sounds incredibly dangerous. You have to promise me you'll be careful." She then shot a

stern look at Shanley You make sure you handle all the dangerous parts."

Juniper had suffered so much growing up. She had finally found her parents, only to deal with this nightmare Miranda wanted to make absolutely sure Shanley shielded her from any harm.

"Thank you, Hannah. Thank you, Miranda." Juniper's eyes grew hot, her heart swelling with warmth. "When the time comes, I might need you both to..."

"Say no more." Miranda patted her own chest confidently. "It's just acting, right? Did you forget what I do for a living?"

"I guarantee I'll cry so hard, snot and tears everywhere. It'll look exactly like my son actually died!"
